Yes JayC...well said...I also had enough of that Cub rep(poor cub)

I also had a 2000 or 2500 series or both a year or so back(can't remember which now) and had to keep upgrading until I found one that worked right.

It had a metal lever, spring loaded, located underneath on the left side as you sit on the tractor. I just took a nylon tie and tied it up so it could not compress against the kill switch. Problem solved. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Have a great summer.

Lazy.. CubTech...

At risk of starting this war up again, let me make a few statements.

No one denies that disabling safety devices increases risk. Your example of someone getting hurt is mute. People get hurt with and without them.

Where people have been so bent is your claim that ANY user modification voids warranty. It doesn't. You can work on your own machines. You can change things to your own machine. It is YOUR machine. You can still get it worked on... under warranty even, as long as what you worked on is not the CAUSE of the problem you are getting worked on even if it is a safety device.

I'll go back to my example. So answer this one Lazy.. if I have a tractor that has an obviously bad tire from the factory, but I have disabled the seat switch. Do you still contend that CUB can legally refuse to fix the tire under warranty?
Example number two. I decide I want a cup holder on a model that doesn't have one. So I cut a whole in a fender and fabricate a nice cup holder and weld it in place. If a motor dies then it gets replaced under warranty. You're arguments just don't hold up are just plain illegal to do to customers. They are protected against such refusals. The product is theirs to do with as they choose. They just can't expect to get warranty work for something they caused, everything else is protected by law.

Now keep in mind here, I have NEVER argued that the dealer has the right to deny warranty if the modification CAUSED the problem.

Hey guys I'm with you on the facts, but let's go easy on the guy. He's forthright about working for cub, so we can know there may be bias; even though I don't often agree, I think it is valuable to know what CC's stance on things are.

Now a little more tact may be in CC's best interest, but by admitting his position, he may well have "his hands tied".

Suppose a Cub with that "Mow N' Reverse" technology was being used when he ran over his son.

At the risk of stealing somebody elses signature line:

"Build it foolproof, they'll find a bigger fool!" I stated earlier that a disgruntled operator is the most dangers; outright foolish ones may have my theory beat. Either way, for the sake of respect, I'll the article's situation was pure accident, even beyond operator intelligence or current state of mind.

Gutut, I also agree that unrelated mods should have no bearing on warranty items. I do think, for least headaches, it's easier to know the dealer position before purchase. Most I know are: "don't disable that feature" wink wink.....

Maybe this is a dead issue, but I have to get my 2 cents in. The kill switch on the seat is a safety hazard. When I duck to mow under low-hanging branches, either forward or to either side, my weight comes off the seat switch and the motor dies. So I don't duck as much as I should, and it's more likely that my head will get taken off by a low-hanging branch.

The kill switch on reverse is an efficiency issue. When I have mowed around until I have just a small patch of grass left to mow, the most efficient way to finish it is to mow back and forth. There's no safety issue here: I have an acre lot, with no children living here, and no children are going to run onto that lot without my knowing it. I have been mowing in reverse with an old Sears tractor for years and have lived to a fairly old age without incident. Fortunately or unfortunately, I outlived the Sears tractor.

As for buying a tractor with the reverse-mowing feature, the only tractors on the cubcadet.com site with that "feature" are the 1500 series economy line. That tells me that it's not a real feature, it's the omission of a safety feature, and to get that "feature" I would have to give up the real quality factors in their higher-price lines. That, I do not want to do.

I may be mistaken but I believe that all the lines - at least up to the 3000 - have the Reverse Mow Feature. It's not just the elimination of the safety feature since it's still installed on the tractor. You just have to switch the key to the Reverse Mow position and then the safety switch will be disabled until the next time the tractor is started.

Bob is right. All the lawn & garden tractor lines have the RevTEK™ Reverse Mowing "feature." I'm not sure about the ZTRs, though. You would think they wouldn't have that confounded switch being how maneuverable they are meant to be.

Heheee.. I hear ya. That's bad enuf, but when the 'seat switch' is activated, it just kills the ignition & not the fuel cutoff solenoid, so the tractor will give you a nice BANG out the exhaust, or will diesel as it coasts down. My 2544 will anyway once she's good and hot. The REV tech feature is nice, but you have to remeber to reset it anytime the seat switch is activated. I still keep forgetting to reset that darn thing !@#$.
