how to design for step pins

I need to weld the pin holes to the 3pt bar for lower link arms to attach. This is the pin that I got. It is a step pin for both cat 1 and cat 2 tractors. The dimensions are in millimetres.

I'd like to double check if this pin is designed to be used with 3 connections or just 2?

With blue color I depicted where the holes in the steel plates will be, similar to this one: https://cdn1.equipmenttrader.com/v1...blurBackground=true&blurValue=100&upsize=true I believe it should be used with 3 connectors for all but the light weight implements, the leftmost being optional.

I guess it depends on what the implement will do. If it's some sort of ground engaging implement, you may want as much support as possible. If it's something like a brush mower or a rototiller, just 2 points of support is enough. If it's something that will be only lifted with the 3 pt and lowered back down to the ground like a wood chipper, you may get away with welding the pin on just one plate.

Here is some pictures of my brush mower (left) and my tiller (right). The tiller is just a cat 1 pin with a spacer to take out the slop, while the mower is cat 1/2.
