Steve. Did it check out ok?

I can forward you a "list" when you're ready. :=)

Terry

Thanks Terry.

I haven't picked it up yet. Cluster you know what.

I found a guy on Facebook that has a suitcase and tig setup. He was going to help me, but like most of the FB deals I've found, it fell apart. I'm sure he's just busy, but haven't heard from him sine the initial contact.

Then to muddy the waters further I saw someone was selling a Lincoln 175HD for $180, yes Facebook. I couldn't pass at that price. The leads were pulled when I bought it so I was a little leery. I bought it, and it works fine with flux core wire.

Back to the XMT. I was going to use the leads off of my DialArc to test the stick function on the XMT. I figure that's all I'll be able to test. I called the LWS and they told me that they sold adapters so the leads would work. I went down Friday, and they don't know of any adapters for old style Dinse leads going to Miller Dinse welder. My understanding is that the new Miller connectors are larger and have a nub sticking out the side.

I've got an ad on Craigslist to try and find a used set of leads. If I find a set of leads, I can put the right connectors on.

As far as accessories, I am not sure I can afford to equip this machine as it should be. I've looked at the price of suitcases and spool guns, and they are not cheap.

I've actually got several months before I have to pick the welder up. I put it on Layaway. I just need to pick it up asap, in case the guy that gave me the guarantee gets fired.

The LWS manager told me that if the stick works, the rest 'should' not be a problem. In the meantime, I am still trying to find someone with what I need to test the unit out.

Thanks again to everyone for the suggestions. I will post after I try the stick function.

BTW: If I buy new leads, what size would you recommend?

Steve

Steve. If you haven't done so already, check the XMT to see if it has Dinse OR Tweco style panel plugs. Miller offered them either way. My two machines were configured differently.

Top photo, the XMT I kept with Tweco style connectors.

Second photo 1/2" Dinse style with Dinse/Tweco adapters.

I have Tweco everything (whips, extensions, tig torch adapters etc) except for a few machines that have the Dinse panel plugs.

I'm not familiar with the connectors on your Dialarc. I would just buy two matching male plugs and make short pigtails with female (your choice) 1/2" Dinse or Tweco and standardize. Premade cable assemblies are cheap on eBay.

And I do the same as Shield Arc. 1/0 for everything except whips.

I finally picked up that welder a couple weeks ago. Tested it today. I wasn't too worried as I got a 6 month warranty. I made some leads and ran some stick. Seems to work great.

I worked in North Dakota for a few years. This is the exact welder I decided that I would like to have. Not really sure why. I ended up getting this one at a great deal. I am concerned about the welder being delicate, being computer based. My old DialArc could fall off of a truck. I would take the cover off and make sure there were no shorts. It would probably still work. This one, not so much.

Thanks to everyone for all of your help.

Back to your first post, you said you replaced the parts and now it just clicks.... What is the actual voltage on the caps when it does this? Need to know if it is just the rectified voltage on the caps or is the boost circuit working at all. The caps are supposed to have 470 VDC per cap when the bosst circuit is working properly.

There is a status LED on PC1, but the blink data is very cryptic. I have the blink rate meanings, but most of them honestly mean the board is bad IF the LED is blinking.
