Perhaps the most newbie question on this board, but I ended up with an L245 a week ago that had sit for many years, and after a bit of overview and liquipds I've driven it and it does the job!

However I can't seem to locate how to change between high and lo range on the tranny and my top speed on whats assumably 4th gear is like a slug. :D

Anyone care to clairfy? :)

From what I can see in the manual.. Yes it is available for download here

it appears the Hi-Lo shift lever is under the seat on the left side of the transmission housing just forward of the left axle housing. LO is back and up and HI is down and forward. This should give you 8 forward speeds and 2 reverse, HI range 4 gear should give you about 12 Mile per hour forward speed.

Hello, David! Just be aware that these machines don't shift like a P1800 - there are no synchros in the gearbox, so I have found that coming to a complete stop and dropping the revs to an idle makes gear changes much, much easier (and quieter, too). Our B5100 has a similar 2WD - 4WD lever and sometimes turning the steering wheel a little bit helps the shifter slide into position a little easier.

Thanks guys!

I know of the syncros, but thanks for the warning.

Reason I dind't find it was that the lever was broken off. However I could still change both to N and High gear with a wrench so now all functions are tested and proven as far as the tacho that's missing the cable.

It was fairly quick in the 8th. :)

Hi David - the external handles & levers were a weak spot on some early L's. Luckily the broken welds can often be repaired. Best to drive out the spring pin and take off the stub so welding heat doesn't get to the o-ring in the case bore. Have fun with your new toy...er,..tool.
