Currently my father has an LT2000 (I think) Sears riding mower and it has 2 deck wheels on the rear of the deck. Parts of his propery have slopes and when he makes turns on the slopes, the blades hit the ground and chew up the grass. Is there a reason this happens? Do all ride on mowers do this? or is there something else to look for in a riding mower to prevent this from happening?

Sounds like the deck is riding too low and not being held up by the lawn tractor.

Some decks are built to ride on the ground, and some are designed to be carried by the tractor. Sounds like yours needs to be carried, and adjusted to a higher mowing height.
What does the manual say about adjusting the mower deck?

Do all do it? No. Mine doesn't, nor do a lot of others. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

A "Floating Deck" helps with this type of problem, otherwise you can do the same thing manually by keeping your hand on the handle and manually raise and lower.

Floating decks usually have wheels on all four corners of the deck. Maybe two more can be added?
