Ok. I've had enough of these ventless gas cans!! What is the best way to modify these so that it doesn't take 5 minutes to empty a 5-gal gas can? I was thinking about inserting a grommet on the top rear with some sort of "cork" that can be easily inserted and removed. Thoughts?

The basic way is to drill a small hole in the corner of the jug and use a screw to cap it or some use a golf TEE.
Another I have seen is to drill it and pull in a valve stem and leave the filler core out , then you just use the standard valve cap

I just remove the spout from the can and

stick this hose in the can to empty it with this.

I remove the whole nozzle/cap nonsense and upend the whole jug, squeezing it then burping in some air when I unsqueeze. Got two 5gal jugs emptied in about a minute, spilled less than when I was fussing with the stupid nozzle.

For next time, I'll punch a hole in the upper corner opposite the nozzle and plug it with a golf tee.

When my older, vented plastic gas can finally got so beat up I had to replace it, I cut it up so I could remove the plastic vent cap without damage, then drilled a new hole in the new can and popped the vent and cap in. It was just a press-fit in the hole anyway. It's been working just fine. Any rubber or plastic plug would have worked, but this cap stays attached to teh jug even when open. When you are as good at losing small parts as I am, that's a plus!

The golf tee method works for me. Been doing that ever since they came out with those ventless pieces of crap.

That is a very good idea. Just drill it the exact same size as on a rim and use a little sandpaper before inserting the valve stem. I've got several short valve stems laying around somewhere.

I, too, use the golf tee method in both cans. I have a one gallon can for the 2 cycle mix and a 2 gallon can for straight gas for my lawn equipment, and I still have to be very careful to avoid spilling gasoline.

I just got a cheep squirt gun from the dollar store one with the little yellow cap on the end and I took that off and drilled a hole on all my cans for these plugs.
