How safe would you like your tractor to be?

Our Husqvarna mower won't cut in reverse until you turn the key back one notch, many a time SWMBO has been mowing and I hear the mower spluttering and cutting out then suddenly fire up again as she moves forward 0nly to stall again as she tries it again, took a while for her to grasp the key solution.

I would argue that operator could be distracted long enough to result in an accident.

What "tractors" disable the PTO in reverse? The only equipment I've seen doing that are residential ride on mowers.

The problem with relying on "common sense" solutions is that there is no such thing in reality. Safety rules and features are only put on to solve a problem that is already happening....problems common sense can't fix because somebody will ultimately lack the sense to do it safely.

I don't have a problem with added safeties.

The only time I came close to hurting myself in my years of living dealing with machines, it was never the machines fault, but my fault.

You can't put a safty manual out for a lack of common sense.

Neutral safety switch, or clutch pedal safety switch. That's it.

Although I dis-able mine (secret switch only trusted operators know about ) I think seat occupied switch is a good idea.

The real question is what would you pay extra to get if it wasn’t mandated.

So far it sound's like there wouldn't be a demand for paying extra to get them. I'm pretty sure the people coming here every day with tractors that refuse to crank and/or run would gladly pay more than what they are worth to be rid of them so they could get back to using their tractors. I'm comfortable with multimeters and know the difference between my ohms and amps as well as short and series circuits but I usually have to do some head scratching before figuring out a new set of safty switches. It's one thing dealing with make and break switchs but open's a whole new can of worms when they use double throw switches and relays they delight in using for no other reason than confuse troubleshooting. It can be a real chore for the poor fellow with nothing more than a test light and interweb advice.
Here's another hypothetical question. What % of revenue for no start issues on 5 year old and newer tractors is attributed to safty switches? In other words I'll bet dealers absolutly love $$$ them.
