Thanks for the responses.

I have walked the lot of Agri Supply about an hour from me many times, have done same at TSC only about 4 miles from me and a few tractor dealers over the years. While I understand your question on the rust and do think Agri Supply keeps them inside, have seen many a rusty spot on new equipment at all of them. Even some on tractors still new on the lots. Think light paint jobs is one reason, metal to metal in shipping, the weight of what is being shipped and trying to control it's movement in shipping and loading and unloading. Even a strap will rub some things. No doubt why you see touch up paint in about all those stores for sale. lol Know not the same issue but just bought a $4,700 implement and there is a piece of masking tape on it, no idea why and went to remove it and it has dried on there and does not want to come off. Do not think paint is damage but it bugs me. OK touch up paint for the masking tape, right? Or some goof off or such.

Fold and soak several layers of paper towel in paint thinner, making a compress larger than the masking tape, and tape that over the dried masking tape.
That will soften the dried on masking tape, and it will come off readily.
Maybe leave that bandage for an hour or two.
DO NOT use laquer thinner, or acetone.
Paint thinner ONLY!

Good result and correct imo.

The shaft looked like it had been sitting partially immersed in water. Possibly salt water? Some of that rust was very scaley and would leave pitting when chipped off.

I believe returning such items acts as a reminder to the dealer to uphold their standards. New means new.

At my dealership we were required to remove all tape, shipping labels, crayon/marker writing etc and touch-up paint chips with artists paintbrushes so the machine appeared to be 'Factory Fresh'.

Machinery shipped down to NZ is transported via Australia where it can sit at the depot for some months in harsh sunlight, which would fade plastic knobs and seat covers. Any sun-damaged components were replaced under JD warranty. Or, the customer could accept a price reduction for minor component issues such as a gear shift knob losing colour (but not functionality).

The longer the journey (Time or Distance) from the factory, the greater the potential for damage. But the customer is paying the same money and should get the same quality as at the factory door.

Good. I wouldn't tolerate that. I'm sure it's fine and purely cosmetic but that stuff drives me crazy

Offshore Chinese I would bet? Never had that issue with domestic made stuff.

Email agrisupply those pics. Maybe you get a new one.

Welcome to the party Will... Did you read the whole thread?

Some PTO shafts (B&P) are made in Italy and are good quality but even your finest quality 'merican-made items are not immune to storage immersed in water.
