Was removing an old aluminum framed window from my foundation.

Crowbar slipped while prying up and my thumb ended up being crushed/smashed between the crowbar and the corner made of concrete.

Damage; Nail smashed
Laceration on nail bed (thumb almost cut in half)
3 stitched in nail bed
Broken thumb

Throbbing!!

Yeah I've seen much much worse...

Usually not on myself though!

Watched the whole procedure too. Had some gloves out but did not put them on (don't think it would of helped but who knows)

Be careful out there and learn from my mistake; slow down!

Those pictures remind me of a time many years ago when I was putting chain lube on my motor cycle chain, Yep, you can guess.what happen.

The tire was spinning slowly, and my finger got to close and the finger rolled in 3 links before I realized it, and I had to back the wheel to remove my finger out of the chain and sprocket. Punched a hole through the finger nail, and cut the end of the finger tip bone.

Wow, did it ever hurt. I never did that again.

Sorry, I was working in the hospital and saw much worse on X-rays tonight. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

ugh, the nail bed is a painful place for that cut too. Hope you heal quick, it is amazing how quick that stuff happens.

Well done my friend!
And thanks for the photos. Photo #1 is particularly descriptive.

I suspect you will have a phsysical remnder of that little lapse in judgement for a few months.
I' m not at all sure how I can learn from your mistakes other than to accept the fact that they (mistakes)happen.
I would say "wear gloves" but judging by the damage, gloves would have only meant a little less blood.
Since you went to the trouble to post the carnage, I would like to see it in a couple of weeks and maybe a month or so.

Good luck with that andTHUMBS UP if you willl:thumbsup:

Ouch! Sometimes it's the simple mistakes that cause the worst pain. Glad your thumb came out alive. Hope the nail grows back semi normal.

Dr. Said the nail would grow back as good as the original.

I did change the bandage but forgot to take a pic (was too preoccupied with the pain)

Tried a new (to me) product. It is a silicone like product with holes in it that is supposed to be non stick, can be left in place for 14 days and promotes drainage .

Time will tell!

I had enough of those type of things happen to me that I almost anticipate them now. For the smallest task that involved lifting, prying etc. I take a LONG, LONG time noodling over it before I proceed.

One of the firs ones I can remember. I was 6 years old, cutting a rope while pushing UP with the kitchen knife. As I got through the rope I was using so much pressure the knife continues and embedded in mt forehead. The scar is still there 50 years later.

Man that picture makes me feel the pain. Glad it wasn't too bad, guess on the plus you could have just as easily lost the tip of the finger. Hope you heal quickly.

As promised a bandage change picture

Next "fun" thing will be getting non-dissolving sutures out Thursday.

Try and find all 3...they will need to dig; not good!
