Do you wait until they get a serious tear, after a certain amount of time, or ?

I generally replace mine when the straps on my old pair start tearing out.

Mine are getting pretty oily and I’m not going to wash them so they will be getting replaced. I’ve had them 3 years.

The elastic straps have failed several times on my Husq chaps. I took them to a shoe repair and had them replaced for $ 12.00 once and $16.00 last time. Still using after 5 years.

When the lining fills up with sawdust from the cuts in the outer shell:D

Broke the man code and read the wash instructions on the husqvarna web site.
So buckle all the straps, wash and air dry.
three years and hundreds of hours later still holding up. oil stains show age and use, think it just adds a patina ha.

If the outer layer ever gets damaged, torn, ripped etc., then a new pair will be stored, next to the chain saw.

Mine are like new. They are folded and wrap'd in plastic in one of my work cabinets....

You should replace them any time you've taken a serious enough hit to pull some fibers.

Also, oil is the enemy of many of these protective fibers. When the chaps have become oil soaked over time, you are not getting the protection you did when they were newer.
