How not to tear up the yard.

I really like using my new Cub Cadet LTX1046VT and one of the big reasons I decided on the Cub was the 12" turning radius. The problem is that when I cut around objects and turn the wheel for the tightest turning radius, the lawn gets torn up by the edge of the outside tire. Are there any suggestions on how to remedy this other than not turning so sharply. Is this a common problem or is there something out of adjustment on my machine?

I'd check that your toe-in is set to what your manual says it should be. Also check that your tires aren't overinflated.

Second that. Also, check your speed. You may be moving too quick. How short are you cutting the grass? Less than 2.5"?

Overinflated? Surely underinflated would be the problem? Certainly my tyres cut up worse when soft as they run on edges - when overinflated tyres will round and run in middle of tread?

Only other thing - is this 4WD? If so maybe run in 2WD mode as in 4WD tyres can run at different speeds (front vs back) when turning causing cutting.

Overinflated tires by themselves won't cause any harm. At most you might get premature tire wear and a more bouncy ride.

However, most tractors are shipped from the factory with tires overinflated to help with shipping. Many dealers and BBS's don't set the tire pressure properly before delivery, making over-inflation a common condition. In the OP's case, if he's already plowing because of a toe-in issue, then over-inflated tires can cause lawn damage because of the higher weight on a smaller contact patch.

Under-inflated tires will certainly cause problems with the lawn, but I assumed that wasn't an issue with the OP because they are generally easy to spot.

The 1046 is a basic LT: no 4WD, no diff-lock, etc.

ive actually heard of a few people having this problem. one guy stated the front end was out of alignment and causing this.

I'll check out the tire pressure and toe in. As far as speed when I turn, I tried going very slow and still have the problem. I don't cut my lawn short so that is not the problem either.

Soft or sandy soil? Newly established grass? Gage wheels touching the ground all the time while cutting? Any/all can contribute..
