I know many TBN members haul trailers so I thought you would enjoy this. Just be sure to get on your knees tonight and pray you never run into this guy on the road.

Wouldn't you love to see how the trip went...? Good chance he ended up doin' some unintended off roadin' somewhere. Check the 'hills' in the background. How would you like to meet this rig on a two-lane road...coming down the mountain in your direction...?

She's hitched up and ready to roll!! Amazin' how the extra weight smooths out the ride.
Needed to air up the rear tires a bit ('bout 160 psi).

Added some super heavy-duty chain for extra support on the tailgate, (note the 'Heavy-Duty 'S' hooks to attach the chain) Also paid-up for some BIG Number 5/16 sheet metal screws to attach the Reese hitch frame to the tailgate (see 'em there? one on each side...) Likely two more through the carpet into the floor pan inside... Yep, probably overkill, but didn't want the possibility of having an accident.

Most of the time was spent on the front porch whittling down that MASSIVE solid pine 4x4 to fit precisely down into the hole in the ball mount receiver.

Note also - The 14'x14' piece of 3/8' plywood on the underside of the tailgate to distribute the load more evenly and beef up that tailgate support, no expense was spared.

They are out there, folks... and they vote !!!!

It would have been ok if he had just whittled a wooden nut for that peg in the drawbar hole......

oh crap:eek: i don't think he put a lock or pin through the latch on the tongue. It might pop off the ball very dangerous.:D

Actually my insurance agent sent me those pictures a few (maybe 3?) years ago when I called him to inquire about making certain everything was covered as far as my tractor/trailer etc. after I had those 2 massive (pun intended) 10,000 pound (intentional misdirection by manufacturer by posting this number all over the straps) straps broke holding the front of my tractor on my trailer and I almost lost it off the back.

It turned out that I was covered with the policies I have but he jokingly poked a bit of fun at me for thinking 2 of those massive 2" straps on the front and 2 of them on the rear would safely hold my Kubota Grand L tractor on my trailer. Obviously, as all here know, I absolutely positively only use grade 70 chains and binders on each corner now and have no desire to be a 'case in point' of being a moron.

I still think you just had bad luck with those particular straps.. perhaps a bad batch.

Last year i pulled a 2300m trip with a 3500# ford on the back of my car hauler trailer and used 4 of those 2" yellow straps to hold her down.. one in front ( trike ).. one over tranny, and 2 at rear axle.

part of the trip was thru lousiana .. roads were bumpy.. very bumpy.. had to slow to 40 for a large part of I-10 and I-12 as it was literally making things like spare tires in my truck bed bounce!... trailer moved nery and inch on the 39 hour trip.

old straps at that.. not shiney new ones...

Why is this unsafe, did he forget to plug in the trailer lights or something?

LOL.

Great pictures. This is the fist time I've seen them. I wonder if it's for real or a joke just done for pics, but looking at it, I think it's for real. That 4x4 block in the hitch is just too convincing for it to just be a joke.

Here, a trailer like that would be used at deer camp, and just moved twice a year, or not at all once it was set up. Allot of them are not even street legal, but are hauled on back roads with the hope of not getting caught. I know one lady who said she lost her plates on her trailer and thinks somebody stole them to move a trailer before deer season.
