My Massey 1648 has around 37 PTO HP. The only thing I use that I notice HP issues ever, is my 3pt stump grinder... when I'm working on a big stump I feel, at times, that I could use more pto HP.

I'm only slightly considering an upgrade because of this, otherwise I really like the Tractor. I can get a Kioti NX6010 for a similar payment. That would be 48 PTO HP.

My question would be, how much would I really notice the extra PTO HP? I'm assuming that I'd notice, being that it would be about 30% more power. But I wouldn't consider the upgrade if it wasn't truly a "real-world" improvement.

Thoughts?

Do the percentages, as you have done. You will feel the difference, no doubt about it!

Why not get a bigger Massey as you really like this one. Be a Bummer to down grade.

My thoughts are,

1: i'm sure you'd notice a difference. I recall you were also looking for a little more HP when plowing snow, I'm sure it'd help there too.

2: it's crazy how fast you go through tractors. I'm not saying it's bad, or that you shouldn't do it, it is just amazing to me.

3: good luck in your decision making.

Simply because of price. I couldn't afford the 1759. I can get the Kioti HST cab w dual remotes, for around $35k. The Massey 1759 would probably be somewhere north of $43k.

This is all still just hypothetical. 90% of the time my 1648 is enough. But I use it commercially now, and time is money. I just grinded two 60" stumps on a job a couple weeks ago, and due to the size of them, I was having to take baby steps on alot of it (due to contact surface volume).

1: good point

3: thanks!

2: I know! My needs and uses quickly change, and I often find and meet limitations quickly once that happens. Luckily I shop wisely and haven't "really" lost money (big picture). I'd rather get out of a financial commitment early on (if feasible) and into one that is more fitting ... than makes payments in something only to trade up later.

11hp would be 2' more mower even in less than ideal condition..

I thought about that too. They're just manufacturer's claims without test results.

I do a lot of garden tilling. When I went from an 18 PTO HP garden tractor to a 23 PTO HP compact utility tractor I noticed a big difference. A 27% difference. BUT, I still wanted more HP after all the new was warn off.
