How much weight can I safely pull with my CK27HST?

Gross tow weight should be listed in specifications section of your OP manual. The Bobcat version of the CK30, the DT230 list gross tow weight @ 3300 lbs. About same weight as the tractor. There is probably some "fudge factor" figured in there for liability reasons, but not a bad rule to go by. Stopping is the critical issue. When towing a wagon or trailer, always slow down well before any curve, hill, or corner.

Looks like my 5000 lb "guess" was way off base too.

It kinda looks like I will have to rethink my 'bright idea', maybe need to pull it with my Heep.

A wagon is still a very useful thing to have, you just don't need a huge one for your tractor, and hauling 3000-4000lbs of firewood at once is better than a bucket load.

Thanks guys. That gives me a base figure to use. I can forget 10 thousand unless I put surge brakes on the wagon.Brakes wasn't in the budget, but I will if I have to. My life is worth way more than brakes.

This doesn't really apply to US tractors but the manual for my chinese tractor shows an air pump and storage tanks as an option.
There is also an air pressure proportioning valve that is actuated with application of the tractor brakes .
The trailers that are sold for use with the tractors have air brakes installed.
It looks like a pretty slick set up- and pulling heavily loaded trailers with tractors utilizing an air brake system may be fairly common place in China?? somewhat like tractor /trailer big rigs in the US

Remember that if your tractor is a 4x4 although you only have brakes on the rear wheels you can get extra braking effect by engaging 4x4 and then the drive line will provide braking to the front tires which under slippery conditions conditions can avoid locking the rear tires and jackknifing.

Well here's my experience pulling a trailer with my DK45. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...g/285317-advice-needed-road-travel-while.html

I pulled the trailer on the road in high range for 25 km (50 km round trip) loaded to about 10,000 lbs between the trailer, load and the ballast weight I added to the loader. I think that was pushing the limits of the tractor and it did start to smell a little hot on the few hills I do have. I would not try pulling anything heavier. Braking was my #1 concern and I was surprised to find that I never had to use the brakes, the HST held it back and stopped it fine. I quickly learned not to try and get off the pedal very quickly, it seemed to stress the HST. I stayed in 2WD for the entire trip.

So, a CK27 is smaller and it doesn't sound like you're going to pull the load on a paved road. I wouldn't think about 10,000 lbs with that tractor (I had a CK30 and know the differences pretty well between DK and CK). I'd maybe try 6,000 lbs (including the trailer) in mid range (or low) if you had a fairly level solid path to follow. Going slow to start will be key. Pull from the draw bar and if that isn't possible, rig a safety chain between the 3pt and the draw bar to prevent the 3 pt from being pushed up on unlevel ground. I guaranty that tractor will out pull a Jeep (there's proof on youtube if you want to see first hand). Be careful, you don't want to break the tractor and you don't want to get yourself killed (the 2 concerns I had, not necessarily in that order).

A cord of green maple is 6000 pounds. I have a l4740 and I can pull a cord in good going with my good trailer. I usually go with 3/4 of a cord or Evan 1/2 cord if haul is less than 1000 feet.

My trailer has 33 inch tires with walking beam suspension. Will walk over stumps 2 feet high. May be a bit overkill for 1/2 cord but nothing gets broken that way.
