I have to ask - what is the goal of the discing? Are you breaking up the sod to farm it or just to smooth it out some?

Also this is a coastal grass field that the cattle graze. It seems like when I make that coastal mad it just comes back beautiful. We will be fertilizing in about a month.

It seemed like you were doing a lot of cutting for just smoothing it out, i.e. too much tearing out of the grass. But then you have different grasses than what I am used to. We used to angle the disc dramatically but just run it over the top so it only really cut the high spots for levelling purposes.

I will say I hope I didnt kill the grass. On the fence because this should of been done already. Every so often I did leave about a foot untouched just in case. As mentioned above we will be fertilizing soon. Hopefully I didnt kill it and if so that bit I left will spread with the help of the fertilizer. Before the dozer it was almost like light brush country or light forest. Dozer ruts was my fault. I had dozer for X amount of time and it rained. I just figured I disc them smooth later.

How much tractor do you need? Just a little bit bigger than what you think you need.

I like that idea about the barrel with water. I have a disc and it needs some weight. No real spot to put it, but given your barrel idea, I might look for a couple spots.

If its an established pasture, you didn't kill the grass. Those roots should be going deep and should come back just fine. Especially with some fertilizer in a month.
