I'm looking to purchase a trailer for my BX23. Does anyone knowthe overall weight of the TLB? How long of a trailer will hold the BX and what GVWR trailer should I look at?

Thanks

I think it is in the neighborhood of 2700-2800 lbs. I'm not absolutely sure though. I haul mine for short trips with a 12 foot trailer. I think 16 foot would be ideal.

Bill,

Per the Owner's Manual for the BX23.
The tractor and front end loader weigh 2023 lbs
before the weight of the backhoe which is not specified in the manual.

It seems that the general consensus is that a 16' dual axle trailer with a 7000 GVW is the ideal size. That trailer will have two 3500 pound rated axles with dual brakes. Sure you could get it on a smaller trailer, but it will get crowded quickly if you want to put anything else on with the BX23. I put mine on a 14' trailer to bring it home, and it was a tight fit. It all depends on your comfort level. I suggest that you take the measurements of the tractor that are found on the back page of the sales brochure to the trailer dealer and see what they recommend. Then when you are close to making the deal, ask the trailer dealer if he would bring the trailer to your home to see how the machine fits on it. Also, this will give you an idea if the ramps or tailgate that the trailer has is sufficient for your use. Many people right after purchasing a trailer have to have modifications made to it to fit there particular situation. Better to have the information in advance and have the trailer dealer make those modifications for you in the purchase price. It will always cost less if the dealer does it than an independent third party. Also make sure that the tow vehicle and hitch is matched to the trailer. I have seen many trailers on the road where the hitch is either too low or too high and the operator doesn't have a clue as to why the trailer doesn't handle properly. There is more to putting a tractor on a trailer than just driving it up the ramps and putting on the chains. Safety is an important consideration when making a trailer purchase. It all has to fit together properly so everything works the way it is intended / designed to work.

The problem with a BX23 is the angle of departure. Last year, when I got my BX23 I bought a trailer to be able to move it. So I took some measures and I finally opted for a 16', dual axle, GVWR 7000 lbs, made of aluminum and brakes. I asked my dealer to add ramps (8' long made of steel) beneath the bed. With 16', you have 1 foot to spare. Here's a pic, it doesn't give a good idea of the tractor because it's a B3030, but my former BX23 fitted great on it. A 16' made of aluminum is 1200 lbs (25% less weight than steel, no rust, no paint). You wash it once a year with acid and it'll always look great.

That is a nice looking trailer. If you don't mind giving more details, such as brand and cost, it would be appreciated. I am thinking of purchase a trailer this summer and have just started looking, but nothing that I have seen meets my standard for quality. Poor welds, welding spatter, thin paint, etc. seem to be commonplace on most that I have looked at so far. Seems that getting them to market is more important than quality control.

It's made by Forest River (Elkhart, IN). The brand name (up here in Canada) is Cargo Mate. It cost me 3380$ (price in US$).

I have to admit that it seems to be quite hard to find a good welder these days. That's why I want to buy a welding machine this summer. So if welds are not ok... it'll be my mistake. I hate to pay for a professional job and find out later that the job has been neglected.

Aluminum is great but it's not as strong as steel. I like the feeling when I'm driving. When it's empty you don't feel it. But if I forgot to change the program for the trailer's brakes when it's empty I realize fast enough that the trailer is there (smoke show). /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif When you think about it... 1200 lbs divided by 5 contact points (4 wheels and the hitch). The weight on the hitch is insignificant so let's say 300 lbs on each wheel. That doesn't allow a lot of traction when empty.

BX23 Weight:

Tractor Only: 1520
LA210 Loader: 562
BT600 Backhoe: 617
---------------------
Total: 2699 lbs.

Someone mentioned that Kubota specs don't includes fluids, so the actual numbers might be a bit higher

BX tractors are shipped from the factory with fluids and the BX22/23 specifically are shipped from the factory completely assembled and ready to go to work after the dealer makes the pre delivery checks of all systems. No assembly needed.

Thanks for all the good information. I don't plan on trailering the BX that much, but I need a trailer for the few times that I plan on transporting it.
