Need to know what a yard of dry gravel weighs. Getting a trailer that physically will haul 5 yards but that may overload it.

Thanks

DrDan,

Dry gravel 1/4 in to 2 in, 2835 lb/yd.

Per Thomas J Glover.

I ordered 28 tons of washed limestone supposed to be 2" but more like 1" it came in two 14 yard trucks.

Just read where 2835lbs seems to be a standard to go by unless you know exactly what your dealing with. probally better to figure on the 2835. Where ever your going to load they should know the weight.

I usually figure straight 1 1/2 at 1.4 tons/yd, something like 1 1/4 to 3/4 at about 1.5 tons/yd, smaller the rock the greater the weight per yard.

Thanks guys...

It looks like my 5 yard dump trailer better not have 5 yards of gravel put in it or the tires be flat. It has a GVWR of 9990 and the trailer weighs 3060 so in my calculations that only leaves me with a load capacity of 6930#. I haven't bought the trailer yet and it has an option of 12,000 or 16,000 GVWR. Maybe if it isn't too expensive I can go for the heavier option. It's a pretty cool trailer - called an EZ Dumper and they have a website.

Tnx Agn
