How much do you know about engines?

That is pretty much the way you take and pass any multiple "guess" test. There is usually a couple of answers that are obviously so far out of the realm of possibility you can just flush them right away, and often comes down to two that seem correct our could be. If you cannot logic it out with your inherent store of knowledge and useless facts, then you can use the Gomer Pyle method to differentiate between the two answers. You take the index and middle finger and rap them over the edge of the table/desk and see which one hurts the most. Assign a choice of answer to each finger and apply your choice accordingly.

I use the 'eanny-meany' method after I've narrowed it down to 2.

Missed the octane question . I guessed HP per gallon.

Too easy. Even if it wasnt multiple choice, would likely have only missed the otto-year question. But multiple choice made that one easy too. Will have to have the wife take this and see how she does.

Not to derail, but alot of people dont understand what octane means. Its simply the higher the number, the greater resistance to auto-ignition/detonation. Meaning 87 octane is actually more "explosive" than higher octane. Thats why they used to put lead in there. Lead dont burn, makes the gas less explosive.

If an engine is built to take advantage of high octane (boosted or high compression) then the power "potential" is greater. But in an everyday driver, you get the most power out of the lowest octane you can run without knocking (which makes the computer pull timing, and decreases power).

Now a days, the ONLY benefit to buying high octane gas if it isnt needed, is if you can find it with a lower or zero ethanol content.

The gas companies have duped alot of people about octane. Making them think that paying more for "premium", or that it is some how better quality ultra refined stuff, is a good thing.

Mini has been associated with BMW for some time... as was Land Rover for a period too...

BMW actually is makes less HP in North American because USA High Octane is lower than Western Europe for the most part.
