How Much Damage to the Kubota?

Its one thing to do it with a hay rake, but much more serious if running a rototiller or auger buried in dirt.
You can overheat and warp the clutch packs instantly.
I did it and couldnt believe it.
I have only done it with a rotary cutter. And try not to do this generally.

I think he's referring to the 2000 rpm line - does MX6000 have an ePTO line like Deere?

What weak spots are there with the Kubota pto?

I didn't compare the price to a new one, but it is cheaper than comparable hours on used ones I've seen.
There is no ePTO function on the MX line

I was always taught to engage pto at low rpm, ease out the clutch, and then run up the rpms.

Heck, my Massey Hydrostatic has a clutch to engage and disengage the pto.

So I engage at low rpm, ease out the clutch, then run my rpms up to PTO speed.

Yeah, I know that too. That knowledge is sometimes forgotten during a senior moment.

I'd forget it. If they are that careless or thoughtless, just imagine what other situations where they have ignored common sense: "Yeah, I go to full governor as soon as it starts with my 7' 'trasher' in order to save fuel." "I opened up the injector to double the power for snow plowing." "I never take it out of 4 wheel drive 'cause I don't want to ever get stuck." I carry a 2000 lb weight box on the back for extra traction when I pull the tree stumps out." "I only use the cheapest oil and change it often so I don't have to change the filter." I dump my used truck engine oil in the tank to save money. Seems to work just fine." I got a deal on new front tires (take-offs). They are not exactly the right size but haven't noticed any problems other than it steers harder than I thought it should." "Would never buy another one 'cause it wore out in 2 years." "Replaced a burst loader line with a garden hose. No problems." The list never gets shorter....

Can you explain more on why? I can't think of a downside to having a working pto brake.

I'm not a safety ****, and I don't have even one tractor with a pto brake, so why do I need it? All of my tractors work just fine without it!

It just makes hooking something up to the pto a PITA!

It's just another thing to wear out and cost money to fix, so again, why do I need it??

You forgot "I smash the differential lock when my back tire is spinning as fast as it can". or "I run it at 1200 rpm all the time to reduce engine wear"......lol

I could be wrong but I believe the MX series tractors use the PTO clutch pack for braking as well as engaging.

Tractors with a wet clutch for the PTO need a PTO brake, otherwise there would be enough drag between the multiple clutch discs that the PTO would spin all the time, arguably, still enough drag that could possible hurt someone if caught on the PTO shaft.

It's there for a reason, specially on those tractors that you can't put the PTO in Neutral.

Usually, the it's a spring actuated brake. As the PTO is turned off, a spring pushes the piston of the wet clutch back and also against a fixed clutch disc that acts as a brake. Others will apply pressure on the brake when the engine is running and let it freewheel when the engine is shutdown.

About the only time it's problematic is for those tractors that have a single speed PTO with no way to put it in Neutral. Otherwise, a PTO brake is no issue at all.
