Can a 40hp tractor tow a 9000-10000lb boat/trailer up (and down) a 5-7% grade? Speed not an issue. Just moving a boat trailer to and from a boat ramp on rural dirt road. Mostly flat except for one hill.

I'd be real careful going down and I wouldn't do it unless the trailer has brakes.

Halfway down the hill your knee bumps the tractor into neutral when you look back. Can the tractor stop the trailer when going downhill? How about a trailer brake controller on the tractor?

Does the trailer have hydraulic surge brakes or electric brakes?

That seems well within range to me. Even my wimpy Mule 600 is rated to tow that much.

Your Mule can tow 10,000 lbs on a 5-7% grade?

I need to see this.

I'm not worried about stopping that small of a trailer. You wouldn't hesitate to go down that hill with a bucket full of gravel which weighs more than that.

Did you see all the zeros?

Did we have some post editing? I could have sworn it said 900-1000 pounds. I'd be way more concerned about 9000-10,000 pounds.

27ft boat displacement dry 6000lbs. Figure 1000lbs fuel, water, supplies and 2000lb tandem bunk trailer so 9000lbs or so.

Tractor has HST and would use low range up and down the 5-7% grade hill. Trailer has hydraulic surge brakes.

Doable???

If you decided to do it use 4WD otherwise you don't have front brakes.

Is the allowable trailer weight with and without trailer brakes listed in the Kioti literature?

Seems like I've seen such figures for tractors before, just not sure which brand(s).

Haven't seen that. Will look.

I would rather use a truck, but if your drawbar rated to carry 1000# it technically should be fine. Hook her up on the flat and see how the tractor handles it... if its the least bit light in the front I'd just use a truck. How much does the manufacturer rate on the drawbar, and what % of the load does your tractor weigh?

I don't own a truck that can pull 9000-10,000lbs. However, Plan B is to get a neighbor with an F250 to help.

My 1720 Ford (28hp) towed a 6500lb chipper up & down dirt roads much, much steeper than a boat ramp.
I would say no problem providing it's 4wd and the brakes work properly.

Bobcat's version of that DK40, CT440 list tow capacity of 1433# tongue weight and 7716# total trailer weight. That is without any front ballast so with loader and bucket and using reasonable slow speed & 4WD going up down ramp I see it as doable.

I towed that and some with my 28HP Jindal but never any long grades like that.

My tractor and FEL was 5200# so weight of the tractor does make a difference.
