I have air, corded and battery, the battery gets used the most. I have Makita, check out the brushless units the last twice as long on a single charge.

I have a dewalt 18 volt 1/2 drive love it. I also have a 1/2 chicago electric corded one also that works fine.

Makita apparently has two versions of their 18V lith-ion impact with two different ft lb limits. One would be a heavy duty and one a lighter duty. Does anyone know anything about the comparison between the two and if one is a better buy over the other?

Which two Makitas are you looking at?

Weight and torque is the big difference the 450Z is much more powerful @ 325 ft lbs vs 170 ft lbs of course it weighs more too seven and half pounds vs 3.5.

Really kinda depends on what you want to do with it. If its wheel changes you want go with big one the 450Z. Is interesting that the prices are so close. No battery included but you already know that right ;)

I know the torque and battery things but here must be something I'm missing for the prices to be so close.

IMO not really...prices on bare tools are pretty reasonable. Its the batteries that really cost, especially the 3.0A batteries that these tools really need to perform. A lot of times to make certain tools more affordable they will offer only one battery in a kit. I think Milwaukee does that with the driver the op originally linked to. Or smaller amp hr batteries. Compare pricing at CPO or the HD website. And like someone else said already combo kits sometimes offer the best deals.

I've read posts about the 450Z here on TBN before. I would consider that one as more of a shop tool than a general job site tool. Wouldn't want to lug it up a ladder :)

Was just looking around...CPO is offering a free LXT battery with purchase of 2 bare Makita tools

correction on my post above, i knew it had a model number 450, and thought it was torque, now i see it's only 325..... but it is heavy.
i usually only use it for lug nuts, and i did use it for the big lag bolts on the new deck railings this year.

So the 450 will take off lug nuts? Is it adjustable for torque? Are you really happy with yours?
