How many fired off a round or more on New Years at the stroke of midnight?

This thread is becoming depressing to me. Who said anybody shot off rounds into the air? I'm saddened by the number of replies to this effect when the only reason to make such a reply is to fabricate this in your minds. I guess it's human nature to read into something you want to believe and ignore what is actually there. I see this with clients from time to time and understand that the biggest hurdle in communication is what the other person imagines is being said.

I live out in the country, I shoot my guns day and night. Night hunting is legal here for a variety of animals. Target shooting any time of the day or night is legal. And yes, during the dark hours of the night, I have been know to pull out the guns and set up a target. I have lights out side and we can clearly see what we are aiming at. I guess for those of you who do not have lights outside your homes, shooting at night time wouldn't make any sense. Assuming that those of us who have shot guns at night do not have lights, does not make any sense.

If my backstop is the same during the day as it is at night, what is the difference? If you are commenting about somebody who shoots at night, why do you assume that he or she is being unsafe? I know a lot of rifle ranges have night shooting. They also have lights so you can see at night!!!

Eddie

Hmmm...I posted about shooting at night so I guess I have a responsibility to reply:

>My post implied nothing about safety, rather, it dealt with courtesy.

>Target shooting and hunting, be it day or night, have a definable and reasonable purpose. Shooting a gun at the stroke of midnight for the sole purpose of making noise has less purpose, whether it be in the air or into a well-designed backstop. This was the point of the OP.

>For some, target shooting at 3 AM ("legal anytime day or night") would likely get a response from the Sherriff for disturbing the peace. If you live on a 160 acre section then this is less likely. It smacks of selfishness.

>Shooting at a range designed for the purpose, be it day or night, and expected has never been an issue in this thread.

>Unfortunately, most of the post quoted above is based in what the poster criticizes. That is, "read into something you want to believe and ignore what is actually there".

No a true statement but you know nothing of me either and my background

True enough, but I made no assumptions about you as you did Richard.

I have a neighbor that shoots off a god awful ariel bomb that would make any gun sound like an air gun. One of those takes care of everyone in the area... LOL

.22 blanks would be fine any time of the day or night.

Boys, come on over to me place. I'm gonna build a fire, we'll roast marshmallows, hold hands and sing Kumbahyah. Don't bring ye guns.

Next 4th of July I should post and ask how many folks shot off fireworks. I wonder what comments that will bring?

I hear ya. Just keep a positive attitude and don't take any of the silly responses personal. They don't know you. They didn't even listen to what you have said in this thread. That's what you get when the "Safety Police" come out.

It's been entertaining though, you gotta admit that!!!! :)

I did not know anything about Richard either until I read his post #60. I did read the whole thread though and note the pertinent posts below:-

Ovrszd #7 Having traveled all over the World to some not so nice places, I've saw this ritual followed a lot. I'm not opposed to it in the proper environment. I don't participate

Silvic #15 This is not a third world country and we are not (well hopefully not) a bunch of nuts here.

Ovrszd #16 I'll not argue the potential danger of shooting in the air. But I'll also not declare peoples that do as being from third world countries and/or a bunch of nuts. That mentality is why us Americans are so well loved on this Planet.

Silvic # 53 You obviously have never been to many, many places on this planet that are third world countries and see what happens when they get into a celebratory mood.
.....
#7 was enough to let me know this was a sensible man posting. #15 made me wonder why the poster picked out third world countries. #53 showed me how right #16 is and that ovrszd is exceptionally sensible and astute particularly with his final sentence.

Then this shows my opinion of the man is correct:-
Ovrszd # 60 We live on a very large planet. So, you are correct, I've not been to many, many places on this planet that are third world countries. Only Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Northern Africa, all while wearing combat gear. But I never considered them inferior to me. I respected them and their beliefs because I know one of the key elements to my survival was understanding the enemy and/or society at hand. I believe I earlier stated that I understood the OP's intent with this thread and don't consider him inferior either.
...........

Would there were more Americans like you sir, then the rest of the world would have a different generalised view of you all.

Thank you Sir for your kind words. I've never been to Portugal. But then Portugal seems to keep their affairs in order and do not require some other country to come "straighten" out their affairs. :)

Well stated Eddie. No one, no one, including the OP, said he shot off rounds into the air.

I look forward to next 4th of July when he posts of shooting fireworks. I am confident the "Safety Police" will be out in force then too. :)

If you're drunk enough to go out shooting, try to use shotgun w/# 6-8 shot or atleast shoot into the ground. I have had bullets whiz past me and it's not fun. That being said, I have done it long long ago before I knew better.
