How Is JD 2440 2WD with FEL?

I use to run a 2440 with loader when I was in high school. It was a nice machine to operate except that motor is noisy. I never could get over how loud they where compared to other brands. At the time Deere had the best power steering around. You could steer them with your pinky. My bet is you have power steering issues because I am almost 100% sure they where only made with power steering. How do the rest of the hydraulics work?

It's just like any other piece of older equipment. You just have to get used to it. After a half an hour, you automatically only turn while rolling and no longer need to think about it.

In fact, you forget all about lack of power steering until one of the kids is using it and you watch them sitting at a complete stop, trying to turn the steering wheel. Here's a tip in that situation: When you explain to them that it is easier to turn that wheel while the tractor is rolling, they will make a comment about junky old tractors. Just give a meaningful look over at the wheelbarrow and shovel. They pretty quickly realize that when it comes to cleaning pens, an old loader is much better than a new wheelbarrow!
