I want midwestern sweet corn, its to die for.:licking: This stuff down here by the time it gets to the market is old.

I had some last year, it was delicious but not much of it. We intended to plant on a half acre at a rent house but hubby got sent out before we could do it. Darn!

I think they plant at Hempstead, there is a big market up there, Dilorio's, so maybe I can get some there.

Oh God, can't remember when I have had any. Love them dipped in flour and fried in butter after soaking in salt water to kill the bugs and rinsing forever. The taste is beyond delicious. My mouth is watering.

IMy peach tree and orange tree are full. Hubby said I need to pick some of the peaches off and throw them away so the others will get bigger. I have got to get bird netting to try and keep the squirrels out of it.

Carolyn, your husband is right about the peaches. I would take at least 1/2 of them off selectively and be ready to take more off. Not only will your fruit be bigger, but overloaded peach limbs will snap like matchsticks and you'll lose everything on the limb. Selective thinning is just part of owning fruit trees.

All your stuff looks terrific. I'm jealous.;)

yes about the snapping of limbs, we have 2 Bartlett pair trees produce hundred of pairs each year, we usually prune back the limbs and thin the fruits as mentioned to help the remaining ones grow larger although last year we had pairs grow to the size of small grapefruits and was still so heavily loaded it snapped some limbs,......... I'm ready this year I have 2x4's cut with forks in them to help support the limbs  although if the tree's do like they have in the past this year will have a minimal amount... seems like every other year produces double the amount of fruits, the apple trees the same way, we also have 15 blueberry bushes that are loaded down, 3 large fig trees that has figs the size of Golfballs, I suppose all the good fortune to having such wonderful fruits are credited to the pesty carpenter Bee's we have around here, we tried a few years ago to have some honey bees although they kept swarming off and the neighbors were complaining so we stopped raising honey was too much trouble anyways...

Yes, we have carpenter bees and some other small ones.

I had to dust my cabbage and lettuce yesterday. I just hate to, bees are so rare anymore and I sure don't want to kill any but I had to do something if I was going to have any.

And I will take the advice and take some of the peaches off. Just hate to though, I have plans for all those.:licking: Ordered my bird/squirrel netting today. At least they don't like oranges.

I have spinach to cut this evening and maybe some bibb lettuce too. But first down to mow at a place I have for rent, hopefully its rented to a lady the first of the month. She is to sign the papers and pay deposit and rent the 28th. It has to be hard for a single mom with 2 kids, one 15 and one 3 to come up with $1950. But she is getting a very nice, completely redone, energy efficient house for $975 a month with all new appliances including W/D. I'm having a garage door opener put in Monday.

I got 3 rows of my 7 in the garden weeded and hoed yesterday and my big yard mowed. Many more to do, sigh.

Plenty green here. Rainfall has been normal so far this spring and the trees are in bloom. My pin oaks in front of the house are just about fully leafed out. The wheat field directly behind our house is about six-eight inches deep in new growth.

I cut my spinach this afternoon then watered the garden. I cooked 3 slices of bacon in a big kettle and threw in the cleaned spinach, it cooks down to not a whole lot. Just ate a bit of it, just to die for. Would love that all year. Store bought is ok, but this is great. Going to bake a pork roast tomorrow and make barbeque from it and have with it plus maybe fried potatoes. I'm hungry thinking about it. Maybe just put my roast on 250 and let it cook over night so it will be ready for barbeque, As I have to go mow tomorrow, an acre at another property.

I need to fertilize and I like using fish emulsion. I have been dissolving it in my big cart that is waterproof and then dipping it out and using a sprinkler to water with. I'm wondering if I could clean my weed sprayer really good and use it. I'm wondering if the plants would get enough though. It's been a good month since I fertilzed and its time. Any easier way to do this. I can use granuales or other spray types but I think this fish emulsion is the best.
