You are in for a bunch of rain it appears

It stopped here a couple of hours ago. It's going just to the southeast of us, over in the Big Bend area. But I'm thankful for all we did get.

I planted a few more rows of squash today. {starting at the Acorn squash and going east} it's 2 rows of Early White Bush Scallop, 1 row of Waltham Butternut and 2 rows of Winter Mix. Also did six more 6 packs of peppers. 2 of Mini Sweet, and 1 each of Chocolate Bell, Habanaro, Hot Banana and Cayenne. I also put 12 more of the Chinese orange seeds in soil. None of the last ones came up.

I was after dark getting it all done. Sunset was worth it.

Well I have a few more tomato plants to try to squeeze in...some heirloom Brandywine, Old German, and Pineapple.

Last year at this exact same time we had a frost earlier in the week.

Feels downright cold today only mid 50's right now  with mid 40's tonight. That'll slow things down.

String beans are up and cukes still need to go in. My gladiolus are being wicked slow though. I put them in the opposite end of garden from last year and they are catching too much afternoon shade from a nearby tree so that puts some limits on both the amount of light and the soil warmth they are getting. Hoping for the best there!

Everything else is going pretty good. Got a great start lots of early heat most days in the 80's for the past 3 weeks.

Here's a shot of the garden from last year with no plastic down really does make a differnce here. Took a lot of hand weeding to around cleanup those eggplants. Just needing to walk my Troybuilt pony tiller between the rows of plastic soon. Ideally if I had the room my rows would be wide enough to use my JD4100 and 50" BH tiller in between :D

Here's a pic from several days ago of my corn patch. Can't remember off hand which breed of corn this is but it likes my soil. The other 3 breeds not so much. This corn has grown at least another foot and tassled nicely.

That black plastic does help with heat. Plus you have most of your weeds beat before you get started. I worked over at Mamma's garden today. Man, I wish I had got in there a couple of weeks ago. The grass was the tallest thing there, and the okra the shortest. She hasn't got in the garden too often, but she does turn on the sprinkler everyday, insuring maximum weed growth:confused3:

The corn looks good. My 1st planting was uneven. A couple of rows did great, but other rows didn't grow much at all. And if I was to trench my corn patch, it would be the other way round. I would plant in the bottom of the trench:eek:

There was an unwanted visitor in Mamma's garden. He had ate most of the tops off a nice Pruden's Purple tomato plant.

I found one in my tomato patch the day I picked the first tomato. I sprayed the one time. Haven't seen any more, but it's about time to spray again. And over at Mamma's too.
