How does your garden grow?

Anyone have suggestions for earwigs, I have an infestation in more than half my corn crop. I've tried the organic route (Wife's demand) and its not doing crap. I tried a low percentage systemic imidocloprid and that aint cutting it. Any more suggestions other than gasoline and having a giant field of popcorn.

Mamma always said they used sand when they were kids {in the 30's}. Not sure if it would work or not.

We're slowly but surely turning our yellow clay soil into black dirt. I think this is our 4th year on this garden plot and for the last three years I've been dumping all our grass clippings on it and tilling them in. The spot that gets the most grass clippings is almost black now and we need to do a soil test to see what's really going on. The soil doesn't clump up like it used to and much easier to plant.

I have about 5 acres of front yard, so that would be a lot of clippings. But then with my sand, I have a lot further to go:eek:

Very cool... I have a small area of clay and I need to to the same thing. Are you mixing anything else in?

Whatever gets picked up by my Walker GHS mower every time including leaves. I estimate about 25-35 bushels of grass per cutting goes on the garden, spring, summer, and fall. We also throw all our household scraps on it, coffee grinds, egg shells, etc. but that isn't much.

Yesterday Mamma went by the Co-Op for a dollar's worth of squash seeds. She came home with this haul. All free because they were from last year.
