How does the DK45S Shuttle shift trany work?

I'm used to the old 50's style tractor transmission. Can someone explain how the Shuttle transmission on the DK45S works?

There is a lever similar to a turn signal stalk on a car that you move forward and aft to go from forward to reverse.

I drove a 45S this weekend - nice machine. I want to compare it to the new Massey 1548.

Very easy to use. Push clutch in and shift the lever forward or backwards. Tractor does not have to be stopped to shift, but you do have to use the clutch. From what I understand the new model 45S has an extra synchro in the trans over the older model. Trans shifts great. Lots of gear combinations. Never heard or read about any trans concerns. Some dealers who are members here can probably give some more complete info on the trans operation and durability.

so is it the same lever for forward / reverse as gear 1, 2 , 3 and so? or is there still a normal type of shifter for which gear your using...

You have a 3 speed rear-end in the tractor with 4 gears in each range, so that gives you 12 forward and 12 reverse. The shuttle up on the dash determines if you are going forward or reverse. For example say if you have the Range shifter in the Mid position, and the gear shifter in 2nd gear, depending on the location of the shuttle (forward or reverse) determines the direction your tractor will travel.

Adding to what Jon said above. You need to stop to shift between low/medium/high ranges, but the 4 gears in each range can be shifted on the go, forward or reverse (no need to stop to shift)

Well i called the 2 dealers that are withing 200 miles of me and neither of them have one... the one tried to sell me a CK30 and the other tried to sell a massey to me, stateing that Kioti is **** to get parts for... well i hope that isnt true...
so i dont know what i'm gonna do... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Depending on what you need the tractor for such as size of property and jobs that you need to do, the CK30 might just be what you need. As far as the parts, I don't believe that at all. I'm sure some of the dealers on here will speak up and set your mind at ease.

well i did really think about it... and for 90% of what i would do it would probably handle it... but the other 10% i'm not sure it would do.
Currently i use my Plow truck to push tree's over and then use my old tractor to drag them to the back of the property, it would be nice to have a tractor that could just plow them down... and i have some really big rocks i need to move.. i'm not sure how much they weigh but they are big...
I also have alot of rather large stumps that need removal..

so I figured cant go wrong with the DK45s with the KL451 loader... but if nobody near me has one, cant really get one...
I guess if i knew for sure the CK30 would do what i need it to, i could settle...

Im glad I got the CK30HST
I pondered gear vs Hydro thinking I would loose power with Hydro. NOT SO---those tractors are so strong! And with Hydro the mower doesnt slow down going fwd to rev. Im happy I didnt get the gear. Hydro is such a convenience. IMHO

If you don't feel the CK30 can do want you want, then don't settle for that. Nothing against the CK30, just thinking about what you need is most important. The 45S are hard to find from what I understand. I was lucky and had delivery within a week. The DK series also has a 35 and a 40 which all of those tractors would do what you need. If you are set on a 45S, then I would suggest checking around with other dealers. I could give you some names, but I believe they are to far away, unless you wanted to travel. I know there are dealers closer to you that should be able to help you. I'm sure the dealers that are members on here would be glad to help you.

I'm kinda set on the DK45S.. but i need to sit on one to be sure. I'm not afraid to buy from a distant dealer, but i dont want to go on a road trip just to find out if i like the tractor or not... as it is the closest dealer is over 2 hours away... can only imagine how far away a dealer that actually has one is..

They are a very popular model; I think we snatched up the last few DK45s tractors that Kioti had on our last load /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. The response for this tractor is great and demand is high!! Demand is high in general for all models of Kioti tractors. Korea is making them fast as they can. Don't be worried about parts, this is simply not an issue, Kioti has a new facility with all the parts you can imagine.

No harm done. I agree 100% that the CK30 is probably more than enough for him. Plus the hydro trans would be perfect for him if he is new to operating tractors. Maybe he would prefer the hydro over the shuttle anyway. I just don't want to see somebody settle for something else than want they want. I feel he should try all the tractors in this size and buy the one he really likes, be it Kioti or something else. Most important thing is to get what you really want. Very large investment to not be sure what you want.

I've been using a 1952 Ferguson TO-30 for the past 5 years.. so switching to a shuttle will be a dream.

Believe me i have thought it over pretty heavily and The CK30 looks like a great machine, hydro would be an really nice to have. but i really don't think its big enough for some of the stuff i need to do.. it would be great to rent one for a day to really give it a run thru... but nobody around here does that either...
