M/F TO35
Just bought my first tractor, a M/F TO35. It has a Mid Western Industries model - F32 loader on it. I have not seen any pictures of tractors with this loader even though the plate also has Massey Harris Ferguson on it.
My question is "How do the cylinders work?" One is a little slow and leaking out the seal so I removed it to rebuild. There is no piston in either cylinder. Just a ring at the bottom which is a sloppy fit in the cylinder and there is also a 1/4" gap in the ring. It works so I will just change the seals and put it back together but I had expected to see a tight fitting piston at the bottom of the rod. Also, where can I find seals and wipers etc.?
Thanks, Bob

I'll get some pictures tomorrow.

Almost sounds like single acting cylinders where the rod is also the piston.

If you look at the list of single action cylinders below, the first and last numbers are often the same. The rod is the piston.

G'day they are a displacement cylinder and are single acting, they work by pushing fliud in so the rod has to push out simple but they work.

The ring on the bottom of the rod is to stop the rod from coming right out.

As for seal and wipers any good hyd shop should be able to help BUT some of these old cyl had odd sizes that were made for the cyl manufacturer and are all but impossible to find. but I have got around it by having the glands machined to suit newer seals

Yep. Sounds like a single acting cylinder. Pretty simple to rebuild if you can get the nut off the front. Sometimes they can be stubborn. Same thing as a snow plow angle cylinder, probably just bigger and longer.

single acting with a trip bucket would be my guess
My grandfather had one and it gave me the big arms I still have today taking manure out of the barn with that thing with no power steering

Thanks all. I get it. The shaft has to move when the cylinder is pressured.

The shaft/piston always moves with the force of the fluid.

If you have trouble finding replacement seals, I would have a good hyd shop cut the seals groves to fit an easy to find seal.

Probably an hour worth of labor for both cyl.

Measure the bore

Measure the groove depth

Measure the width of the groove.

Find a seal to match or cut the groove so the seal will fit.

Then test the cyl.
