I'm cleaning up my garage before the snow flies here in North Western Massachusetts.

How do you store your Mid Mount Mower Deck for the winter?

This is my 1st year with my JD 2305 and want to get this thing stored and out of the way, I will be using my rig for snow removal.

Pictures would be great!

Thank
John

I have enough room to store flat on the floor, however, some use wheels to store on edge. Try Google "mower deck storage wheels" Below is one result with pic.

a few years back there was a guy who advertised on TBN who sold wheels and small axels that fit into the gauge wheel holes. I bought a set and have my 2305's deck stored standing up against the wall. I haven't seen his ad for a while though ...

I just stored mine for the winter last weekend. I lay it flat on the floor under my work bench. So the space isn't a complete lost i took a piece of 3/4 plywood and cut it just a little bigger than the shape of the deck and put 4 legs under the plywood to hold it just above the deck. It gives me a nice platform to store light items above it. Come spring i just roll it out from under the platform.

My first year with a MMM and I ran out of time to do anything but get it off the ground out of the way (on a pallet), cover it with a tarp, and say "see you in the spring." I did have time to wash it good and grease it. I put a couple of ropes around the tarp to make sure it doesn't blow off. I like the vertical storage cart seen in this thread and I'll do that next year.

For several years with a 60" MMM on a Kubota BX and now a "B", mine is stored over the grandkids' sandbox (4x6). With several slats across the sandbox, I move the MMM there with the FEL and set it down. There's no room in my garage to stand it up on wheels. This year we had enough time to finish mowing grass and shredding leaves to get the servicing done before storage. With some bailing twine I tie a tarp over it. Setting it on a skid would work just as well. Cheers, Mike

I made my own mower axles from 3/4" threaded pipe (longest TSC had), 4 wheels, 4 reducer inserts, and some PVC pipe (used as a spacer).. Not as pretty as the ones being sold but 1/2 the cost and it works..

I had always stored mine flat. Usually under my Jeep that I never drive in the Winter. This Fall I got energetic one evening over a couple Beers and cobbled up this vertical storage method. Scrounged some old wheels, used cold roll rod for axles on the rigid rears. Scrounged a couple swivel casters and a piece of angle iron welded to cold roll for the front. The spring loaded adjustment pins used on the deck casters holds the cold roll in place. Now it takes up less space and can be easily moved to clean around it.

I leave the wheels turned in the deck removal position and stand it on the back end with a 3 foot piece of 4"x4" under the rear lift pin brackets. It's never fallen over in 7 years.

FYI - unless you have a FEL dont even think of storing it on end.. MMM are heavy, very heavy to move manually
