Hi All,

I have never been on Face Book and it sounds like Craigslist has gone south. I'm cleaning out my basement shop and I have a few items that are worth far more than scrap. I have a sister in law with a FB account and I suppose she could list it for me on Face Book Market place

For example as the subject line states, I have 3000+ pounds of "unused" stainless steel sheet. It's a pretty specific material with a small audience.

How do you price your stuff? Like 60% of new material? Where do you list it for sale?

any suggestions?

I think Facebook Marketplace has gotten worse then Craigslist for scammers. I don't know anything about stainless steel, who would want it or what they would use it for. If I had a bunch of it, I would probably try to figure out who is using it for something and approach them with a price that is better then they are paying for it already. I just wouldn't expect much success by just listing it and hoping somebody needs it enough to contact you.

Try to find a FB group specific to metal working. Here's a guy I bought a dog from. All CNC, 3D cad setup, and in need of stainless sheets.

Contact your steel suppliers locally. They may buy it at 60% of current value. Steel price have gone nuts. i used to pay about $80 for a 4x8 sheet of hot rolled steel, they want $210 (just called on a sheet last week). All thanks to tariffs.

I encountered a unique steel place in Detroit. They sell a variety of steel from chromoly to stainless.

I think they purchase military and aerospace surplus, but they may also purchase small lots.

It would be a benefit if the material is certified, and the alloy is known.

Where did you purchase your steel? You can talk to your vendor.

Thanks for all the comments

I got the sheets of steel when the factory I worked at closed. The last remaining employees got to take their pick from huge piles. The good part is the steel has an ink ID mark.

I might have a contact at a local water jet fab shop. They may know of users of this gage

Well, tell us the gage and size of the sheets.
(3000 pounds would be about one 4x8 sheet 2.3" thick correct?)
/edit - but I'd love to have 1 sheet about 1/2" thick, just doubt I could afford it.

I still use Craigslist. But I specifically state: no distance sales, cash and carry only. That seems to discourage the scammers.

Not sure if anyone would even want it all!

yes cash and carry, I think each sheet is 144 lbs.

Do you have any fabrication shops or plasma table folks around? I would imagine they would have a use for it -maybe a smaller shop would pay you cash for it -maybe even trade some fabrication work for it
