After viewing a great deal of YouTube, it seems to me that when people in Canada refer to a building, or farm "project" etc., they tend to pronounce the long O as in "pole and oh" when they say PROJECT. while people in the lower 48 use the short O as in "ox and top".

Where the pronunciation differs is just something I'm curious about.

If anyone would care to comment on whether they use the long or short pronunciation of the O in PROJECT and tell where they picked up their pronunciation, please do so.

Alaskans and Hawaiians will be particularly interesting.

I enjoy Canadian Speak. Very unique.

In Canada it's the long O, in USA the short O. Unless you live near the border. Then it may be either. Then there is the accent from New Brunswick, a province in eastern Canada. Lyse Doucet, a journalist who works for the BBC speaks with this distinctive accent. It was more pronounced when I first heard her years ago. It is an interesting accent.

Long "O" - short "o" - as long as English is spoken, I'm OK. I can even understand French - if spoken slowly and without localized slurs.

Since you should be a "pro " to handle a project, I pronounce it " pro" ject :)
