How do you prep for future power outages?

As a kid, 60 some years ago, we would go camping in the mountains with my dad, and we would cook over an open fire. (The “grate” was always the first thing out if the car when we arrived.). We would just boil water on an old, soot-covered coffee pot, throw the coffee grinds in, boil it up, and drink it grains and all. Is that cowboy coffee?

If you toss a half cup of cold water into the pot when you take it off the fire, it will settle the grounds.

I'm not much of a coffee drinker (IMO it's only palatable when it's essentially hot melted coffee ice cream - ie, mostly cream and sugar). Still, when I heard about "swedish egg coffee" I had to try it. It's definitely an improvement over the normal, but it still doesn't come near my melted ice cream version (and I take hot cocoa any day still - milk + good cocoa powder + varying amounts of sugar depending on my mood, sometimes no sugar, sometimes a bit).

Coffee is an excellent seasoning for chocolate. I keep a jar of instant around for that purpose. It's horrible stuff to drink, but I put a spoonful in any fudge recipe. It really makes the chocolate flavor pop. Sometimes I will also add Stevens Dark Chocolate cocoa mix to a cup of coffee. It makes a great cup of cocoa.

Generally I don't drink anything sweet. I worked with a guy once who talked me into drinking sugar in coffee. That cost me a small fortune at the dentist. Lesson learned. Sugar rots your teeth, and does other nasty things in your body. Sugar is OK as an occasional treat, but I can go days and never consume anything sweetened.
