Just curious on how you all measure the area when job is completed? How do measure the acres do you just go by what the customer says, or do you measure it also to see if your numbers are the same. Is there a handheld gps that you can walk the boundary that will calculate the area?

Just about any newer handheld GPS can calculate area as you walk. For fun and Geo-caching with the family, I use an inexpensive Garmin eTrex which is only $119 and comes with base maps and can do area calc's.

Ditto. Use a Garmin 62S. You just hit calculate area, walk (or ride) the perimeter, then hit enter and it will give acres.

If you can get a good Google Maps satellite view, you can use this to figure acreage.

Depending on how accurate you need to be (to the acre? half, quarter acre?), there are some decent online google apps:
Google Maps Area Calculator Tool,
Google earth has some measuring capabilities, and there's a an add on for an acreage calculator; at least for windows.

I was able to get my place spot on, but the images are pretty good where I live. My parents place is not so good.

Depending on the accuracy you need, a laser range finder, a pocket calculator or even an old fashion pencil and paper (remember those?) would be the cheap and quick way.

this works great just did all previous areas i've worked and the acre's were close if not the same as the contract said. also mentioned a gps to the wife and she picked up one the next day works great. i'm just a part timer usually only do 300 to 400 acres a summer. right now using a T320 and magnum, and a 268B with mower. And love this work:laughing:
