I am leaning heavily toward orange since the prices I am getting on comparable green tractors are way higher. Now I just have to figure out which one...

B2900HSD $13295
B2700HSD $12095
FEL for 2900/2700 $3095

B2410HSD $11395
FEL $2995

B7500HSD $9795
FEL $2695

BX2200 $8895
FEL $2395

Landpride 5’ rear finish mower $1695

(prices from my Kubota shopping trip in Houston TX)

No comments? I thought they were pretty good. I'm not done shopping yet.

Hi,

I'm not up on the latest prices, so I can't be of too much help. They certainly look O.K., but that's just my opinion.

I noticed you didn't get a quote for a B7800. Any particular reason? It might round out the lot, so to speak.

Also, you seem to be interested in quite a range of tractors. Without specific regard to your actual needs, your prices do reflect something that I found when I was looking at the B series 3 years ago. That is, if you compare the loader price between a BX2200 and the LA402 for the B7800/B2710/B2910, you find that about a 25% increase in cost gets you about a 90% in lift capacity, plus a larger bucket and greater lift height.

I've found this to be true with most implements. So, again, the bigger tractor will give you more for your $$$.

It's because of this that so many of us on this board often recommend the biggest tractor you can afford that fits your needed applications. You just get more bang for the buck. Of course, a huge tractor does you no good if you can't maneuver it where you need it, so eventually a little bit of sanity is needed.

Good Luck in your decision. Sounds like you've got nothing but winners in your sights.

My B7500HST is a year old now, and I spent a few hundred more than that when I bought mine. I shopped three different Kubota dealers, and the other two were $750 and $1,500 more than I paid....................chim

not being up on the current prices, i can only go on what i ahve seen on this forum, but the prices all seem reasonable. but u are talking a wide range of machines, which one will do the best for your needs? how much land and what kind of uses? will have an awful lot to do with what machine u need. a low price won't do u much good if the tractor can't do what u need it to do.

Sorry guys, I posted the land/use info in the General Forum. I pretty much narrowed it down to Kubota now because they are running a lot less than JD for a comparable setup. Land/use info below:

Have a house outside of Houston TX on 4 acres. Mostly flat all open no trees or obstacles. The property does slope off to a pond and grass right up to the water almost. All along the front and side there is a 15-20’ wide V-shaped drainage ditch which needs to be cut. Some of the “field” part is smooth other parts are rough with 6-12” clumps of grass in some areas, some areas eroded near the pond, some areas are muddy and some areas are pretty rough not to mention the sometimes foot high fire ant mounds. Photos Here!

Have a Scotts 20hp 48” cut riding mower. The Scotts is fantastic for cutting the nice St. Augustine sod that is around the house but once in the field it isn’t as good. It gets the job done but I feel I am tearing it (& me) up trying to cut everything. On the grass clumps the ride is like riding over bowling balls. The eroded areas I have to stay away from as the holes will swallow the tires and the thing gets stuck even it a little standing water. It does the drainage ditches pretty well with a few areas being just too steep. The Scotts will be kept for around the house.

About 90% of the use of the new tractor will be cutting the grass. I want to smooth out the rough, bumpy and eroded areas. We have some areas that are low and need to be filled with dirt for better drainage. We have too much landscaping and I want to move 10 cubic yards of mulch around in the spring and about 5 or so touch up in the summer. So a loader is definitely in!

I forgot to price the 7800, but I got a price of $12,400 at a second dealer (whose prices were a few hundred more on everything than the first dealer).

I find the BX to be too small. Yes it’s a “real tractor” (as one of the salesmen told me /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif) but it’s not much bigger than my Scotts. I know my property and it would swallow up the BX.

I got to use my neighbors L3000, it was nice but a little too big for what I need, plus it left a few dents from the ag tires in the yard when I used it to spread some mulch.

I am leaning heavily toward the 7500, it sounds like it should be good for what I want to do with a tractor. My only reservation is do I want/need to go bigger and more powerful? There is only about a $2700 difference between the 7500 and the 2710 or the 7800. I would easily pay that IF it would be beneficial to me but I don’t want to go too big for only 4 acres. I was trying to stay around $15,000, the 7500 would be a little under that and the 2710/7800 would be a little over. Again I would pay the extra if I really need it. DO I???

Well I have just gotten a B2910. I love it. I paid 15,600.00 for it with 402 FEL. A man I work for has a B2410. It is an okay tractor. A friend of mine bought a B7500. He paid 12,200 with 302 FEL. I have used the B7500 and the B2410. I donnot care for the B2410. As far as power goes I would just as soon have the B7500 as the 2410. I would either get the B7500 or the B2710. If you want to spend the extra money get the B2910. It is all about your budget. You will be happy whatever you get. Just some advice

I checked out your pictures - wonderful place you have, there.

You want something along these lines with either a brush hog or a rear mounted fininsh mower. You are definately on the right track, IMHO.

My only reservation is do I want/need to go bigger and more powerful?

My only regret is that I didn't /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif. But realisically, my tractor is up to everything I've asked of it. Bigger would be OK, but what I have works really well for me.

Remmington Trails?

I'm in Katy too. Which dealers have you dealt with and where did you wind up buying? I looked at Roach, but I bought a car from their Ford dealership once and was very dissappointed in the service. I realize these aren't cars, but I just can't seem to get the bad taste out of my mouth.

Hi Keith,

Yes, Remington Trails. Did the white fencing give it away? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I went to Roach first because it was closest. Jack and another guy there have spent some time with me and I had a couple test drives there. I first thought their prices were good but it seems their tractor prices are just a little ($0-$200 or so) below everyone else but their add-ons (FEL, cutter, BB) are all $150-$200 each more than everyone else. So the lower tractor price is wiped out and then some by the higher implement prices. Pickup & delivery on warranty service is up to you, they might pickup if in your area or you can borrow their trailer. 50hr service is on you too. They are very knowledgeable on their tractors thought and have answered all my questions.

I went to Sealy tractor next (Virnau) & talked to Donny. Their prices were all a few hundred dollars higher and they mostly deal with the bigger farm tractors. Donny was helpful and could get in whatever I wanted but I haven’t been back because it’s further out and their prices are higher.

Last Friday I went to Lasndowne Moody on 290. They have a full line in stock of the B series I am looking at, it was nice to look at them all side by side. Their prices were equal to or $100 more than Roach on the tractors but $150-$200 each less on the add-ons. They do offer free pick up and delivery on warranty work and 50hr service and 50hr service is free labor you pay parts. I have to take another trip there and talk to them some more.

I haven’t decided on dealer but leaning toward Landsdowne, but all 3 dealers seemed decent. I haven’t decided on tractor but leaning toward 7500. I have a few more questions to ask and a bit more research to do.

So which dealers have you delt with and what experiences have you had. Where is your soon to be cattle ranch in Katy? Oh and the 3130 is really sweet from what I saw, nice choice!

Actually, I didn't see the fence - just looked like the area. Sweet location! My "ranch" is in Yoakum, about 105 miles west of Katy. I'm working on setting up everything for retirement in about 15 years and I didn't want to pay the "big city" taxes. So "local" land was pretty much out of the question - expensive too!

It seems I'm following in your foot steps! Maybe we can get together and do a group buy! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I went to Roach first (Jack is very nice), then out to Sealy (dealing with Jeff), and I've been at the Lansdown-emoody web site. I also have a very decent bid from Elk Tractor (El Campo I think), I'm going out there this weekend. I'm still waiting on a reply from two Victoria dealers (closest town to Yoakum). But all in all, it appears you could throw a $500 blanket over the lot and cover all the quotes. With that low of a difference, I'll likely go with the dealer I like best who offers the most in service.

Did you happen to notice if there is an LA513 FEL at Lansdowne? I'd like to compare it too the LA723 up close.

We like it here, it’s quite but not too far from things. We weren’t planning to buy a house, just looking for few acres of land. Found a builder’s house almost finished we really liked and decided to buy.

I found the same thing shopping Kubota dealers, the prices are all real close to each other. I went orange after my very first tractor shopping stop at Brookside John Deere in Katy where they wanted list price and OVER for their tractors. I couldn’t see spending $3000 MORE for a similar tractor.

I saw your 3130 at Roach and really liked it, too big for me though. I called Jason at Lansdowne-Moody with some questions today and asked him if he had a LA513 loader also. He said he thinks he has one at another location. You can call him at 281-373-5185 and see if he can track it down for you. I told him you were looking at a 3130 and had not settled on a dealer yet, he seemed to get excited and said send him in /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif.

Maybe we can get a group discount! Get my neighbor across the street in on it too he’s looking but last I heard his CFO (wife) wouldn’t approve the purchase /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

/ How do these prices sound? #13
My CFO told me to buy the darn thing so I'll quit looking for tractors every weekend! I'll call Jason today.

By the way, just got in the quote from Rioux Farm Equipment in El Campo (turns out Elk Tractor is in LaGrange). They beat Roach (the highest priced dealer) by $860. They beat the next lowest by $345. Now that's significant! Package price for the L3130 HST, R4 tires, LA513 FEL, Bush Hog SQ600, and an AMI 5' Box is $18,555 delivered. Not bad for a couple of phone calls and an e-mail or two! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Try the dealership in Navasota and Beamont they beat everybody around the Houston area when I was shopping for mine. I tried to work with Jack too since I dealt so much with him when I was doing field maintenance for the Little League. One more place is Boecher-Havlinka. They are in East Bernard and Rosenberg. We wound up buying in Nacgodoches because it was closer to where the tractor would be kept. Navasota and Beamont had the best prices. Navasota will deliver it with a full tank of fuel.
Hope this helps
Mike

Thanks Mike! I'll put them on the call list for tomorrow!

I called Jason and he had very good pricing (actually the lowest so far), but I was a little uncomfortable with the brands he wanted to include. The cutter is a Modern (the one with the Dragon) and the box blade was some other off brand. His dealership is also farther away from the property than any of the rest. Hopefully I can find a dealer closer to Yoakum who can match the price.

Seems the more I learn the less I know. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bobo,
As so many have said on this forum, the dealer is an important factor. You've done your homework & scouted around for your best prices. Now, if you have a dealer close by who you'd really like to buy from if the price was right, take those best prices to him - - he may match or come close. I did that & ended up paying $250 more than my best price, but that was over an hour from my place. I figured that wasn't enough of a difference to make me take my business elsewhere. So I paid it & stayed clost to home. Just my $.02.

/ How do these prices sound? #17
I agree totally. Price is actually not much of a factor. I can afford more tractor than I need. I'm one of those people who actual insists that an item pay for itself and the only way to do that is to buy the right equipment in the first place. If I were to "rank" my buying criteria it would be something like this:
1) Dealer - Do I get a good feeling when talking with the dealer. Does he/she address my concerns. Do I know more about their products than they do (that would be bad). Do they answer their e-mails. Is the dealer easy to get ahold of by phone.
2) Service - How are their facilites equiped. Can they handle large scale repairs. Will they be easy to work with on warranty issues. IS THE SHOP CLEAN (I hate dirty shops).
3) Price - If one and two are equal, it's got to be price.
4) Location, Location, Location.

Price is just a simple way to keep score when you're at work and using the Internet or phone. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
