'39 Ford 9N
I just brough my new baby home, the guy I bought her from thought it was a 1947 8N. It has a 3 speed tranny, the 3-point lever is on the right, and the pto lever on the left. I think I have a 9N, or maybe early 2N. But I admit I don't know that much about tractors, in general. As soon as I figure out how, I'll post pictures.

I figured it out! How to post pics, that is.

Thanks! Everything works smoothly, except the brakes. Since I live on hills, I plan to replace the brakes ASAP, and needed to verify the model to order them. Anyone know the best place to get them?

I finally found the serial number. *9N26791* The chart I found says this is a 1940 9N. For a 70 tear old tractor, she runs great! Fires right up (as long as I remember to open the fuel cutoff), shifts into all three gears, three-point goes up and down just fine. The guy I bought her from had a two-bottom moldboard plow on her, and we stood two big countryt boys on the plow, the three-point picked it right up. PTO still has the screw-on cover, and I don't see any wear on the splines. Only problem is the brakes, and I ordered a brake parts set and pads ftom YTM last night. Does anyone know if there is a decent ROPS available for the old girl?

The best source of info I've ever found for the old Fords is Ntractorclub.com. Anything you'll ever want to know about those N series tractors will be found there. It's truly one of the best and most useful web sights I've ever seen-with all due respect to TBN.

Soundguy, I've noticed you seem to be one of the resident experts. I'm sure I'm showing my ignorance, but was the a problem with the I-beam radius rods? I plan to keep the old girl for a long time, so I'd like to repair/rebuild anything likely to break on me. I only have a 2.5 acre lot, mostly wooded, so the 9N is a big toy, but I'd rather not roll down a hill sideways!

no the ibeam radius rods or the orginal rods for a 9n the 2n and 8n's had tube type i would think the ibeam style would te stronger but cost more to make so the quit using them

Sounds about right. I used to be a drop-forge tooling diesinker, we made a few i-beam front end dies, but fewer each year.
