How do I stop Bamboo !!!

I have a neighbor that has a big bunch of bamboo in his yard on his side of the fence.
The stuff is coming across to my side of the fence and getting in my wifes flower garden ( About 30 ft. away ).
Also bamboo shoots are coming up all over my yard .
I go out every other day and take a knife and cut them off but that is not killing them ( This is after mowing my lawn every week ).
I might add I do through the shoot's back over the fence I just thought he really likes the stuff and I don't want him to lose any of it !!!

That is one of the toughest thing to get rid off.

Almost no way to stop it... Short of Nalpalm.

It may be too late now, but I'd excavate a trench along my side of the property line and spike the ground with copper sulfate crystals. When you finish refilling the trench, make your plans for a rock garden there because nothing will grow where the copper sulfate is.

Good luck...the best I could do was to slow it down a bit. HATE that stuff!
Maybe plant some kudzu and let the two fight to the death?

I slowed it down by soaking the ground with Ground Clear before it came back up in the spring...then soak again when it just starts to end up shoots.

My wife laughed and said "Good Luck!". She is a landscape designer and Master Gardener.

She said you might be able to dig a trench 2' deep, line it with plastic, and refill it(along the fence line). Bamboo does not root very deep; that would create a barrier to further growth from the neighbors, but not stop what is already at your place.

Otherwise, deny it water. But in West Virginia, I'm guessing you get year round rain; that would be hard.

You might talk to the neighbor that started all this. Maybe trench both sides of the fence to stop it. The neighbor is going to have issues with the spread eventually too; it will take over...

The other thing you might try, is check with your local Ag Extension office or county Master Gardeners. They may have recommendations for the specifics in your area and soil types.

You really have to have barriers BEFORE it spreads...

Bamboo or the japanese knot weed? I have been fighting the knot weed for years, it looks like bamboo but is weak. cant be used for anything.
I have seen pictures of bamboo breaking through concrete containers. Nasty stuff. You might have to salt the ground to contain it.

Have looked at spraying that part of the yard with 2-4-d ? Read up on what 2-4-d will kill, it won't kill the grass, but might just work on bamboo.

I'm not certain that it won't but 2-4D is a broad leaf herbicide. That's why it doesn't kill grass. I would think round-up would but it also kills grass.

Mow it tight with a hand scythe and pick up every scrap of it and dump it on your worst enemies lawn in the middle of the night (Your congressman's or bankers lawn will do. ) then cover with three layers of black plastic, a foot of crushed gravel and two inches of blacktop pavement. Then build a thirty by one hundred foot tractor barn on it and park all your essential survival equipment on it for twenty years or so checking often for any shoots working their way out to the edges.
This has a proven track record of working at least fifty percent of the time.

I did a landscape job for a lady and she hired another guy to install bamboo in her back yard(???). That guy dug a three foot deep trench and installed a very thick petroleum based barrier to keep it from coming to the house but nothing on the back or sides. Those neighbours will have the same issues in time.
