Buying Advice how do I know

Hi All
Im looking at buying a massey 135, but the prices here (South Africa) vary so much Im getting confused!
Many dealers claim to have rebuilt the engines etc, and the tractors look great with their shiny new paint.
Is there any way, (with out opening up the engine) to tell if they have really rebuilt it? I would rather buy a scruffy one, and do the work myself, but those are very hard to find.

Also is there any disadvantage to getting a 35 or 35X instead of a 135? the dealers seem happy to put 135 decals onto everything - Ive even sen one with a 2C Toyota motor being sold as a genuine 135!

Lastly what implements can the 135 handle I'd like to make a fairly big veggie garden and clean up the property. what size plough disk harrow, rough mower and scraper blade would it handle?

HI and welcome. If you can take the serial number and then compare it with the serial you can find in some old tractor site like Yesterday's tractor or other. Good luck.

I have a 1966 135, haven't run anything off the PTO but have used it to clear some land (skidding logs). I have a 7 foot MF back blade that I used to do all my rough grading after I built our house. Now I use it for snow removal and help keep a few horses.

The tractor has lots of pull :thumbsup:, I filled my rear tires for better traction in the winter months and when working in the woods.
