Hi,

I bought a gauge, more specifically this one,

Gauge, Liquid Filled Gauge; Mechanical; 2-1/2"; Stainless Steel

to test my relief valve pressure on my Yanmar and determine if it needs to be adjusted, as right now its having trouble lifting stuff it should easily be able to pick up.

If you don't mind taking a look at the gauge that I purchased and telling me what kind of connectors, fittings, hoses, etc. I would need to hook it up to my Yanmars hydraulic system, and WHERE it needs to be hooked up, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Dennis

Sorry about that, I don't know why the link has a session that expires...

Anyway, where do I need to hook up my gauge to?

the gauge should be located somewhere on the High Pressure side of Hydraulic System, between the Hydraulic Pump and valve.

for proper fittings and lines, I suggest you contact a Yanmar parts dealer with a description of what you are trying to do. they could then determine the parts needed and suggest a mounting location.

on a side note, the more stuff you add, the greater chance of leaks or line failure. more than likely the high pressure line would be cut and then a compression tee added to mount a gauge.

Do you have a loader on your tractor with quick-disconnects?

No, I don't have a loader. I really dont want to get into putting any tees in the high pressure line... is there not another port somewhere that I can attach the gauge to?

Dennis, the easiest way is to take a hose off the most convenient loader
cylinder and cap the cyl connection. Get the adapter to go from your
guage to the hose, prob a 1/4NPT female/-4JIC male. If in doubt, take the
hose into your shop. When there, spend .75 for a female JIC cap for the
cylinder.

Before hooking up the guage, operate the cylinder to be used for the press
test to the end of its travel. This will limit the oil loss and the unbalanced
forces the FEL sees during the test. Connect up guage, adapter, and cap.

Start tractor and operate the FEL valve in the same direction as above. Look
at guage when doing so.....it may be easier with a helper to operate the
valve.

Oops...did not see you had no loader. If you have NO added hydraulic
circuits, you may have only hard steel pressure lines. I this case, I would
use a pressure test access port on the tractor, but you need to have a
service manual to find one. Sorry.

Plumb it in the right plug of the lift housing cover. You'll have to activate the 3 point to get pressure to it.

Plumb it in the right plug of the lift housing cover. You'll have to activate the 3 point to get pressure to it.

He will have to do more than activate the hitch. Activating the hitch only builds enough pressure to raise whatever is attached to the 3PT. That's not going to give him the info he wants. To measure system relief, the pump has to be deadheaded some way or other.
