How do I get rid of spam?

Spam Weasel has a very good reputation, it can be downloaded from <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.webattack.com/freeware/comm/fwspam.shtml>http://www.webattack.com/freeware/comm/fwspam.shtml</A> also PopUp Stopper will prevent ALL pop ups and pop unders, but does have one anoying factor, you have to press teh shift key to go to an embedded link. Also, my corporate web site hates it. (still use it though)

The only fool proof way to rid yourself of spam is to create a new e-mail address. (and be mindful of who you give the address to)

Main defense, is DON'T SIGN UP FOR ANYTHING! Particularly freebie stuff. Research what is spyware, and what is not. A lot of so called 'browser aids' are nothing but spyware.
I use a little program called Empty Temp Folders for cleaning garbage off the computer, and it also knocks the spyware stuff off....while it keeps the temp files eliminated also.

I hear ya'. Truth is you never do. But I found a neat windows program I use called Bounce Spam Mail. It requires a proactive approach to using it, in that it requires some cutting and pasting of mail headers, but what it does is send back a 'no such address' to the mailer. It is a method to fake-out the spammers. They will drop you off their lists when they think your email address is bogus. Nice little tool. I understand the author no longer supports it, but works for me on windows 98. Also, never reply or click the link provided by spammers to be automatically removed from their list. They are not legally bound to honor your request, and doing so just tells them you are still there. It's an ongoing battle /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif.

The simple answer is YOU cant. If you post in a public or semi public fourm where your address is visable you will get spam. Plain and simple. There is little you can do to stop it. Hiding your email address in fourms makes the fourms less usefull and often is will get you kicked off the fourm. Your best defense is a good email program that has spam filers.
Filter, sex, hardcore, investments and credit and much of your spam will go away.
Update your filters as new keywords are started.

creating a new email account, just means you will start getting spam in a little while longer and now you have lost contact with all your friends from the old account. Having a seperate email for public and privte email will help but your public account will still get the spam.
