I cannot say what I need to adjust; you just need to look at the pictures. The two devices came loose secondary to vibration. The tractor is a 3 CYL NH TN70A. I noticed that when I accelerated, I had fewer RPMS at the same throttle position. I went through the "differential" (Doctor speak for possible reasons) and first thought the fuel filter was restricting flow = less RPM. I found the loose "devices" (see pic) and tightened the "loose devices" and the RPM came back. Sort of makes sense, as the loose devices prevent full power and RPMS. Now, is there a correct way to adjust the two devices on the throttle cable? I did replace the fuel filter and clean the prescreen, with no problems like leaks or air in the injectors. I figured I might as well do that, no time like the present.

Any help on how to correctly tighten the loose devices greatly appreciated.

Mornin Doc,
Well it seems to me that you found your problem on your own :) I cant stress a service manual enough on any tractor ! With that said, with your throttle completely closed it appears that the adjusting nut on the right should be adjusted to just start to contact the lever on the injector pump. At that point you can tighten the adjusting nut on the left, and it appears that you should be good to go !

What I wonder about is he going to have any max rpm differences if the cable is traveling more than it was when set at the factory.. etc.? Anything to worry about?

Mornin Chris,
Well, without the service manual in front of me it would be only speculation ! A simple call to his dealers service department may be the easiest fix for the short term !

Yep, I did that. RPM comes to idle as usual. Cable at idle has 'slack". At full foot throttel, just a toch of slack in cable (I still have some travel in the cam on the whatchmacallitthat the cable moves that provides fuel to the injectors).

Hey Doc,
One more thing comes to mind :) If you know what size nut you have, substitute it for a nylok nut. That way vibration shouldnt cause a future problem. They work quite well, they have two different styles. One type has nylon at the end of the nut to prevent turning, the other type has a nylon dimple in the threads ID to do the same thing.

Proper adjustment is to with the engine off, put throttle lever to wide open and pull it back about 1/8". Now loosen the rear nut severial turns, then tighten front nut until lever on pump contacts it's stop. Tighten up rear nut and snug. The pump RPM settings are done where the lever contacts the stops at the pump so you have no worry about changing it. The 1/8 " gap is so your throttle lever is not contacting anything before the pump lever contacts it's stop.

So, it is okay to have the lever maxed out? No harm will come to it "hitting" it's full throttle stop so to speak?
