It sounds like a Farside comic strip. Some old guy is sitting at his breakfast table in his robe and a cannonball comes bouncing through the window and knocks over his wheaties.. That was quite a ricochet.

Apparently the protocol requires the following commands.

"Ready"
"Fire!"

Maybe he forgot a command.....
