We have a 30 something year old 20' bush hog mower. (so old I don't think bush hog even shows a manual) One of the U-joint yokes, I think is worn inside to the point the u-joint wobbles & shakes the drive shaft. Has any one found a way to tighten up the yoke on a 6 spline shaft without buying a new 35 series 6 spline yoke?

I’ve seen the end closest to the gearbox welded to the gearbox input shaft.
You’ll get a cussing from future mechanics if you do it though!

Can you find a slightly larger cross and bearings from an old car or truck at a junk yard and press it in ? Or can you heat it up cherry and forge it into a better fit on the cross and bearing caps ?

You might be able to modify the yoke so it's like a cathead. You would have to drill and tap four holes at each end of the female yoke and install bolts or setscrews that you use to center each end on the male spline. While it might center it, there's no guarantee how long it will keep it centered...maybe minutes or maybe hours...or more. Who knows? :confused3: :2cents: If it does work, I'd Loctite the screws in just to keep them in place. If you do decide to try this method, centering it is easiest when you use four screws per end.
