How best to get rid of all these small stumps.

Have M7040 with grapple. I can perhaps work them all out using that. For sure this okd man cut all of that with a chainsaw...and dang near killed me. That stooped over work doesn't work any more.

Thoughts on my option. About 500 foot with uncountable numbers from 6" down.

How soon do you need them out?
If you could wait a few years you could drill a hole in them (think 1" wood bit in a 20V Max drill), put in something to hasten rotting. pull them out with scarifiers on a box blade.

I had a 24" red maple stump that rotted in about three or four years in Northern Virginia.

Hard to see in the pic but had you left a little more sticking up...one of the jaw type grubbers would have no problem pulling them out with your K_ubota...

Yes...I'm sure I can, but it's going to get messy. I've grubbed up far bigger stumps with it. It will be the way I go probably. It's just got a fair number of them.

You may be able to loop a chain over them and just pull them out. It looks like you may have enough stub to do that. Otherwise you grapple should work. Those small trees should have just been pulled out by the roots to begin with.

My 26 TLB would snatch them out in one pull. I used it to clear a thicket of sweetgum trees pulling out the whole tree then stacking them so I could push the bunch into a pile with my FEL. No more than a couple of minutes per tree to uproot them. Most of that time was set up time setting the outriggers and FEL, then one scoop with the backhoe to uproot, then swing down the thumb to pick up the sapling and stack it to the side.

I agree, those should grapple right out. Wait until the conditions are right so that the soil is nice and soft, the go slow and pop (curl) them right out. A brush grubber would also work great, but you kind of need a two man operation for that. if you can get a younger helper to do the grub work and you stay on the tractor seat.... it's a good deal.

No getting out of messy when digging out stumps. Having that grapple puts you ahead of the game for clean up.

Drill a hole in them and fill the hole with hot nitrate fertilizer. Wait for them to dry out, pile brush or firewood on top of them and set them on fire. They will burn out.

Next time try a powered pole saw. I saw some forest workers thinning trees and it looked like they were using small chain saws with a very long bar.
