A dedicated ripper attachment will do better than a box blade. Number of teeth depends on tractor size.

Around us a Mini Ex (7-8K) is about $200 a day, Rent on Friday and you have it until Monday morning and mostly get 10hrs. It would make that an EASY job and not beat your tractor up.
I pull small stuff like that frequently on a mini without any issues and as others said you can stack them to burn or dig a big hole and bury them all.

Have M7040 with grapple. I can perhaps work them all out using that. For sure this okd man cut all of that with a chainsaw...and dang near killed me. That stooped over work doesn't work any more.

Thoughts on my option. About 500 foot with uncountable numbers from 6" down.View attachment 545823View attachment 545824

If the cut is still fresh you could spray (or paint) the tops of the stumps with 2,4D to kill the roots. The best is to paint each top with undiluted solution. This will kill the roots pretty quickly and by next season the little ones will be history. The larger (6”) will be much easier to pop out with whatever you use. The secret is killing the roots as quickly as possible after cutting to prevent re-sprouting and continued growth.

Good luck.

Glad I saw this thread. Planning on removing some trees in the yard this spring to make room for some apples maybe. I think I'll come-along them over where posible.

Just thinking out of the box [or box blade], do you really need to remove them at all? If you cut them level with the ground or even an inch or so below mower height, you could just seed the area and mow it like a lawn. Might be hard to play badminton on it but over time thy will just disappear.

But can't resist giving my favorite piece of unsolicited advice. I would have a little lawn a possible. If I ever build another cabin, I'll have no lawn at all. Aside from the responsibility of mowing it, there is the time and expense of maintaining the mower. Consider ground cover or naturalizing such that you only mow once or twice a year.

I have that bucket and haven't had much luck with it. I have a NH Workmaster 33 4x4 @ 32 hp and about 3000 lbs. so my tractor is a good bit smaller than your's. I think that bucket is well built and strong enough, but I have bent one side of mine. Doesn't help that I stand up on it with the FEL which I know I shouldn't do. :) I'm clearing thousands of sweet gum saplings and it's amazing the root system those things have. I have to admit the bucket has helped and it's just another tool in the arsenal, but I would think your grapple would be a better tool and just leave the stumps longer when you cut them off for more area to grab or more leverage when you pull at an angle. My biggest problem is I don't have a young helper to do the "ground work" who someone already pointed out helps a lot.

Smaller than about 3 inches, I go at them with a reciprocating saw with a pruning or demo blade and take them down to ground level. Mowing over them takes care of the sprouts.

3-8" or so, I was cutting them near ground level with a chainsaw, then crosscutting the surface to promote rot to the point the recip saw could cut sections off.

Up to about 8-10 inches, I now have a new bigger digger.

Above that, I leave them to rot. Might take a few years that way though.

I cut down about 75-100 Bradford Pears on our land. None were larger than 8' but the roots were terrible. I dug a few out with a stump bucket but soon realized it would take forever and wear out my tractor in the process. I rented a Deere 35D mini excavator and pulled most out on the first try. A small dozer would have been even quicker, but I think the excavator was able to remove the roots as well. Much easier, and totally worth the $200 I spent renting it!
