Houston, things to do?

Next month have to be in Houston for work. I'll be at a hotel downtown for a week. I don't drink and don't care much for bars. Can anyone give me some pointers on things to see and do at night in town?

My wife use to work down there before we got married, and she really hated that city, calling it a big cement parking lot. That bad?

There is plenty to do without going to clubs/bars. If you're into the arts, check out the theater district. You can also see what is going on in the Toyota Center. If you're going in October, a ballgame is out of the question (someday Astros will rebuild back to 05 form).:thumbsup:

I was born and raised in Houston and admit the traffic can get to you. Out South Main near the Texas Medical Center is the Mueseum District and a quite good Planatarium near by. The touristy things are scattered and you have to hunt them out.

Having worked there I recommend the Space Center tours and the Center itself but that is about 15 miles from downtown. If you have a GPS be sure to take it - first timers can get lost in the freeway system.

I admit that I am glad to have moved out of that place to a more laid back area. If you have questions PM me and I will try to help. TxDon is also an escapee.

To add to what Vernon said. I'd take a trip out east through Pasadena and Deer Park along Hwy 225 to the San Jacinto Monument and the Battleship Texas. San Jacinto is a special place to all Texans where the cry, "Remember the Alamo!" rallied the troops against Mexican General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna to a victory that secured Texas' independence.

Took my grandson out to dinner for seafood at the Monument Inn this week. Always been the best sea food in the area.

I did drive him through the battle grounds before dinner. Still chaps my ***** they changed the name of the road from Battle Ground road to Independance Hwy.

Kemha boardwalk is good to see but the seafood is over priced.
