Re: House, Porch Roof

Here's the latest from our not-quite tractor related project. Porch roof framing is about done. Thursday morning I tackle the porch deck framing under the roof. That's one of our contributions to the efforts. My other projects tonight were insulating some drain pipes and bathroom walls for noise. I also ran a couple of empty conduits from the basement to the attic for future growth. Fun stuff but nothing compared to the work our crews have been doing.

Drywall was supposed to start today, we even left a supply of snacks but they didn't show. Hopefully tomorrow. Siding starts next Monday. This afternoon my wife and I visited the stair hardware people, the tile people and the door hardware people to finalize selections. It's all fun, but very consuming. We're much more involved in this house than the last one we built (12 years ago). Also didn't have kids back then so life in general was easier.

Re: House, Porch Roof

Tdenny,

Thanks again for the input (are you a builder?) I will make sure I find no squeaks and if I do I will have the builder do the extra nails and such (that is what he is paid for) but I really don't have any worries. He is not a track builder (nothing wrong with them) but he builds fewew houses and focuses on the custom aspect of it.

At anyrate here is the beginings of walls and I will also post a new visiter to the project.

Re: House, Porch Roof

Of course living in the country would not be complete without meeting the neighbors. My wife and I believe in protecting the creatures that are on our property. To this end our estate has provisions to keep our land protected from development or destruction.

We enjoy the wildlife that we see everyday. To date I have seen deer (tonight) chipmunks, squirels and I believe a pheasant and her baby (that almost got run over). I stopped and waited for the chick to cross and catch up with its momma.

Re: House, Porch Roof

Great shot of the deer! We have our share of wildlife as well. Have seen deer, turkey, hognose snake, our resident red-tailed hawk, barn swallows, bluebirds and ducks. Also have a skunk but not sure he's in the long term plan as a neighbor, we'll see /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: House, Porch Roof

MDNY,

I am not a builder by occupation but as I mentioned have built two custom homes (no tracts) in the last 5 years. Just wanted to give a little friendly advice. I also enjoyed the picture of your local creatures. We have a herd of elk that visit us nightly and have also been known to bed down in my backyard. I'll make my first attempt at attaching a picture of one of my neighbors that I found chewing on my grass one morning while I was getting up to go play golf.

Re: House, Porch Roof

Tdenny,

Thanks again for the input. This site has been great and I am glad RobS started this thread. It allows all of us to show off our big major projects.

Nice neighbor eating the grass. Just think if he keeps the lawn cut down you can play more golf ( mee too). We really enjoy wildlife and nature in general. I will look forward to the other little creatures that pass through, stay or eat our grass. I moved in and I know I have to share what was theirs before it was mine.

I will stop out to the job tomorrow to see what they got done. Really keeping up almost daily during the framing part. But once they move inside it will be harder.

Not so much harder, but definitely slower. Our drywall hangers started working yesterday (no holiday for them I guess). Talk about a major change to the appearance! I was out there all morning myself framing in the porch deck. 93 degrees and bright sunshine. Gotta respect the guys who put up with that every day to earn a living. I was whooped after about a half day /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

This thread is getting too long, so I need to close it now.

Rob, it has been very interesting and I love the photos... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Please start a second thread and link to this one in the first message. I'll insert a link in here to the new thread once it's created.
