Tractor
kubota BX-22.......couple of sears riding mowers that the neighbors were throwing away at one time or another.
can someone help me w/ a household electrical question.

my wife consistently refuses to turn of lights,tv,stereo etc when she leaves the house.

i know this is not tractor related but we could use the figures to see how much it costs to plug in our tractors overnight.

i want to show her how much money she is wasting away.

i pay 10.5847 cents/kwh for electric.

what is the formula to figure lets say:
40w bulb
60w bulb
75w bulb
what about a 27" tv (i need to get wattage)
and what it costs to operate per hour.

now even if you tell me to divide this by that i will still screw it up. so if possible could you do one calculation for me?

i would appreciate it. i am trying to show her what it costs on an hourly basis for her laziness.

i am sure this may help some others also.

thanks
scott

75 watt bulb divided by a 1000 watts times 10.5847 cents per KW

75/1000*10.5847 = .79 cents per hour

left on for four hours would cost you 3.16 cents

/forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gifO'Boy. If I hear a big ruckus coming from the NE, I will know what is happening. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't know anything about electrical and don't even like to work on it./forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif But, doesn't the decimal need to be moved to the right. .0079 cents and not .79 cents? That would be about 8/10s of 1 cent per hour. Is this right?

Guess the point that I was trying to make was .79 of one cent or in dollar terms .0079 or about 8/10ths of one cent. Sorry for the confusion. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

They say that marriage is a 50 - 50 proposition ... My wife and I have found we don't have the time or energy to put in 50 - 50 and that it works a lot better at 40 - 40 and the remaining 20% is crap that just don't matter and can take care of itself or simply isn't important enough to warrant attention .... I'd say this fits in that 20% -

If the cost of plugging in your tractor is hurting either your realtionship with your wife or your finances something that's a bigger problem with more issues that needs addressing.

I'd bet .25 cents would keep a tractor warm all night long.

Hi
If you have to worry about leaving lights and tv on, you can't afford a tractor.
we leave tv's lights and other things on also.

I feel you pain and have a easy solution for the problem. Get some passive infrared (motion detector) light switches and install them. When she stops moving the lights will go out. My wife will fall asleep in front of the television with the lamp on the brightest setting, but when she decides to turn off the television and the lamp to go to sleep, the LED of the smoke detector bothers her. The light from the digital read out on the thermostat also bothers her. I have decided that there is something that is cross wired in the female brain that causes these problems for men. Logic won't work and don't even try, because there will be greater problems created when you force a woman to look at something logically. I just had this discussion with a friend that sells things on eBay. Last year he sold over $20,000 of "junk" that has been in the basement of his deceased uncles basement, however, his wife sees this as a waste of time. As he put it, if he were to put on a suit and go somewhere to do a business deal that made him $20,000 that would be different. He doesn't understand it, nor does he try any longer. Last night my wife was a raving screaming banshee while I was talking to PineRidge on the phone. After I got off the phone with him, she said that she was "kidding" and really didn't mean what she had said. This is where my saying "A bad day at work is still better than a good day with the wife!" originated. Everything is great before the marriage, but after the marriage ceremony, the brain is short circuited and there is no reasoning with them. The founding fathers of our country were onto something when they didn't give the right to vote to women!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

For what its worth, the big loads are the big costs...the dryer, the fridge, etc. Don't get me wrong, but a 40 watt bulb shouldn't break the bank.

Think of it this way...for every 1000 watts of lights on for an hour you pay 10.58 cents. Just be sure the 1000w halogen lamp on the garage is off /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

I agree that you need to pick your battles. Maybe you'll save $ 10.00 a month if she is shutting everything off. Is $ 10 worth the spoils of war ???
