Tractor

Saw a listing for a 3032e, looks to be about what i need. What is a reasonable number of hours on a tractor like this? I would anticipate my own usage to be fairly light. Just looking for something used since I plan to store outside and can't see the sense in spending over 20k for a new tractor only to leave it outside all the time.

Condition and maintenance are as important as the hours. Anything under 500 hours is pretty good and even 1000 hours is fine if it’s in good shape.

I sold my 1998 Kubota L2900 about three years ago and it had about 500 hours. Good tractor, I was only using it once in a while so it had relatively low hours. But those 500 hours was me using it an hour or a two at a time. Rental construction equipment might be four years old but have 2000 hours or more when they send it to auction. So there's no pat answer.

Agreed - Condition and maintenance are as important as the hours, but storage is a major factor. A tractor parked outside will degrade faster in value and potentially performance long term due to critters and gauges/electronics malfunction and more.

Get a cheap shelter $299 from HF until you can build a barn/garage.

yeah this one has like 1500 hours on it.

i have a shop, i just need to move somethings around. i should probably just get a new l2501 or ck2610.

i appreciate the input. my brother felt 1500 was pretty low hours, but he was coming from a jobsite where they worked a 4 series all day every day.

I'd buy a 3032E with that many hours as long as it was kept under cover, maintained well, and looked decent.

Like others have said, you'd be well served to put anything you get under cover. In South Texas, the sun eats everything. Case in point (no pun intended) I had a neighbor with a very nice 60hp Case tractor. Few years go by of it being in the sun, and the paint is faded, seat is rotted, hoses are failing, tires are dry rotting, etc. In the past 7 years, it went from nice tractor to nothing I'd buy, unless it went for really cheap.

they want 10k for it with loader. it looks pretty rough. but in the flip side, i would not feel bad leaving it outside.

i have an old hot rod (65 gto) in my shop and i just figure the more stuff in the way, the less i will drive the hot rod. i’m not really the guy who goes all in for rural living, i just like having some space and some country roads to drive the goat on, and i am starting to realize that with 5 acres and a gravel driveway, i probably need a tractor.

not to say i won’t plant a few trees here and there or expand the garden, but i am not the guy that prioritizes having a super sweet tractor.

I was in the same boat, a tractor wasn’t important to me at one time. As I got older and wanted to get more stuff done around the house, it became important. The truth is it’s a good investment in the long run.

I can turn a wrench alright. My problem is I have too many things to turn wrenches on, and with two small kids and a busy job, it's not always how I want to spend my time. I actually *like* turning wrenches. So, as with every other major purchasing decision, there are a bunch of trade-offs to consider - depreciation, interest, time spent on repairs, money spent on repairs, suitability of the equipment for my usage, etc.

At the end of the day, I can always sell trade it in on a new one if I decide I need to do so.

Maybe a better question is - what's the worst case on one of these? Say the engine blows up or the HST is done for. What are the repair costs like? If it's 2k to replace an engine or trans at the dealer, used makes sense to me. If it's 7k to replace an engine or trans, I'm buying a new tractor.

My luck, it's probably 4k, right in the middle, leaving me with a very tough decision ...
