I got these fittings from a friend of mine and they fit the pump, valve and cylinder so i went about ordering hoses.
I called Surplus Center and gave dimensions of what i had and they said it would be a 1/2" 8F fitting on the hose.
Got the hoses today and:confused: The hose fitting is too small for the fittings i have.
Well, here is what i have. They also had 1/2" 10 F fittings on hose, is this what i need or just try to find fittings that match the hose?

What dimensions did you give to SC ?

Fittings come on all sizes and shapes, and you have to know what you want. It is hard to tell from a picture what size a fitting is. A hyd shop can make you up anything you want, but you have to be specific, or take in a part to match.

The hose might be one size, and the end fittings another size and type.

The adapter looks like it is a 90° 8 Male NPT to 10 Male JIC, if the JIC was 8 it wouldn't be larger than the 8 NPT end. You could use a 8 hose with 10 FJIC ends, or change the adapter to have a male JIC 8 instead of 10

What a pain in the ***!
Tomorrow i will take the hoses and find matching fittings.
Thats what you get for trying to save a buck and not buy all at once.
Thanks guys!

if you give us the dimensions, we can sort it out for you...

Or, you can go the Thread Size Chart on DiscountHydraulicHose.com and sort it out yourself.

Basically, though, a #8 JIC fitting (1/2" tube) has a 3/4-16 thread. A #10 (5/8" tube) will be a 7/8-14 thread. Most likely, the easiest thing will be buying a new elbow to fit the female fitting on the hose.

The chart linked above shows male thread OD AND female thread ID, so you can measure either of those and determine exactly what you need.

Ok, i went to the local guy and he had some fittings that fit the hose. 1/2" NPT with 1/2" 8F ends.
My question is since the JIC side actually nipples down a bit am i losing some performance or speed where the fitting is reduced compared to the 1/2" ID input side? Should i have sent the hoses back and got 10F ends?
I should have done my homework before ordering things like this.

Thanks fellas!

What are you using it for, and what is the flow rating? Without knowing those answers you can't get an intelligent answer.

Its for a log splitter.
200cc engine, 13.6 gpm pump, 4x24 cylinder.
I guess this was a dumb question to begin with as the hose ID is the same as the ID on the JIC fittings smallest end.
