I meant to say, the water thingy on the side of the house that the hose goes into. :sneaky:

That's what I call it also. I have never called it a hose bib. 😇

I received my new splitter from Lee Valley. I was disappointed to find it was made in Taiwan. Looked to be better made than the stuff from Lowes.

Well, I installed it and it leaked. I tightened it with a wrench, and it still leaked. I wrapped the threads with Teflon tape, and it still leaks, although not as much. Guess I'll have to live with it. This would not be acceptable in a dry climate where water is scarce.

Still think your hose bib has a crack or something causing eveything to leak!

Can you post a photo of where it is leaking? Is it leaking from the valve stem? Is it leaking from the garden hose? Is it leaking from the threads of the garden hose?

While it is not impossible that your new valve has the identical defect as the old one, I suspect that something else is going on like warped female fitting, a hose crimp going bad, or a bad, or undersized hose washer (I once bought 25 washers that turned out to be undersized as they were an exact metric size. They always leaked.).

All the best,

Peter

The interweb just isn't what it once was. Why I recall when solutions required algebra calculations and more but answers were always found. You would think someone could explain the proper way to connect a garden hose.

Not sure why this is so hard to diagnose. Because the OP won't share where it's leaking. let's start with eliminating the components. also, anyone suggesting teflon tape does not know how water hose connection work. The threads only pull the sealing surfaces together against the rubber gasket.

If you attach a garden hose to your bib with a device at the end that shuts off, does it leak? Where??
If out of the bib stem, the packing seal is bad.
if out of the rubber seal, you have a bad rubber seal or it is not tight enough. Use quality rubber gaskets and or use channel locks to really tighten. If hose has plastic nut, they are junk!

If the hose attempt above is now leak free, Now try your splitter. With both side of your splitter closed, dose it leak? If yes where? Around gasket or via the ball seal?
If gasket, same as above tighten with plyers/ plastic nut + junk.
if ball seal, junk

It leaks between the splitter and the Bib, where the hose would connect if I did not have a splitter. I used a wrench to tighten it with no luck.

I'll post a pic when I get a chance. meanwhile where do I get those really nice gaskets I have been reading about?

OP,

Plastic nut or brass? Garden stores sell washers, as well as any big box store

Any box store, hardware store, or even Amazon will do, but get rubber ones, red, if you can, or black, but don't get the shiny black ones as they are something like urethane and too soft. I would bring your splitter and try them for fit in the store.

All the best,

Peter

Now why would you want him to do THAT and remove some mystery from it? With a bit of tap-dancing I could see this winding up with more followers than Kando's drain plug. Speaking of which,I'm wondering if one of the tools suggested for removing Kando's plug might work for this.

I looked at my original post. I might not of come right out and said where it was leaking, but with a bit of reading comprehension and critical thinking it sure isn't hard to figure out.
Anyway, I fixed the problem. I let you guys get back to your popcorn I wouldn't want to spoil the mystery. :giggle:

1. You closed the valve and it stopped leaking.
2. You removed the valve bib, and put your milling machine and refaced it

And???

You can't leave us hanging for the sequel to be released in two years, can you?
Oh, wait, just like the studios, you can...🙂

You might be surprised by how many comprehensive readers and critical thinkers recognized reluctance to "come right out and say" was leading into a game of tiddlywinks and moved on without comment. We less cultured specimens couldn't let it go without letting you know you were busted. Pass the popcorn and dim the lights in preparation for the next who-done-it.
